Alexander Gustafsson will go to war against Jon Jones for the second time for the soon-to-be-vacated Light Heavyweight title at the upcoming UFC 232 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Dec. 29, 2018, in Inglewood, California. Before then, let’s take a look back to see one of “The Mauler’s” most dominant performances.
Back in 2014, Gus found himself staring down then-undefeated prospect Jimi Manuwa in “Posterboy’s” fourth fight inside the Octagon. Prior to the showdown, Manuwa had scored three straight (technical) knockout victories inside the Octagon.
In an unsurprising move, Gus took the fight to the ground early to avoid Manuwa’s lethal stand up arsenal, battering and dominating Manuwa on the ground. In round two, Manuwa seemed to be finding a groove in the striking department immediately following an eye-poke. But in the blink of an eye, Gus closed the distance and trapped Manuwa in a Muay Thai clinch, clipping him with some sweet chin music to stun his foe.
From there, it was all she wrote as Gus piled on the strikes to put an end to the fight.
In the end, Gus and Manuwa ultimately became good training partners and have helped each other prepare for their respective fights ever since. And you can bet Manuwa has been instrumental in helping Gus get ready for his much-anticipated rematch against “Bones.”
