Carlos Condit has dropped four consecutive fights and hasn’t won back-to-back contests in nearly seven years. While no one can say for sure what happened to “The Natural Born Killer,” his next opponent, Michael Chiesa, isn't taking any chances.
“Maverick” has been training for the Condit of old. Not just the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion, but the same welterweight destroyer who knocked out the likes of Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim, among others.
“I’m preparing for WEC Carlos Condit,” Chiesa told Submission Radio. “I’m preparing for the Dong Hyun Kim, Dan Hardy Carlos Condit. That’s the Carlos Condit I’m preparing for. And I don’t look at him… he is a legend of the sport, but I don’t look at him like that because I just don’t think… this is a sport where people are quick to be written off, you know what I mean? A guy can be on a four-fight win-streak, get his butt kicked one time and everybody’s writing him off. But four fights before, that guy was a hero.”
Condit (30-12) has flirted with retirement during his dreadful 3-7 span, which all started with a loss to former welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre, back at UFC 154. But it appears like as a coffee entrepreneur is lacking the adrenaline of mixed martial arts (MMA).
As for Chiesa (14-4), he’s making his 170-pound debut after a dreadful weight-cutting disaster at UFC 226, which resulted in a submission loss to Anthony Pettis. No question there is a lot on the line for both fighters at UFC 232 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.
