Wilder vs. Fury, The Morning After: Odds for possible rematch are dead even

What you may have missed from last night

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury put on a heavyweight boxing fight for the ages last night. At least, that’s what I heard. I had to cover UFC: Adelaide, which was exciting in its own right, so I just caught the highlights, or rather, highlight: Tyson Fury getting up from the most dead-to-rights knockout I’ve ever seen as if nothing had happened. He went on to, by most accounts, be robbed by split draw, which even had an incorrectly added scorecard in favor of Deontay Wilder. Fury said afterwards he was very careful with his post-fight reaction, as he knew there were 8,000 Travellers in the audience that could tear the stadium apart if he were to rile them up.

Naturally, there were many cries of ‘corruption’ and ‘scandal’, and it does seem a bit convenient that two of the biggest boxing fights of recent years- this one, and Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin- ended in very unlikely draws, which only increases the likelihood for an immediate rematch. Judges are seemingly never held accountable for their scorecards by any formal public review process, nor are they paid much of anything to make multi-million dollar decisions, which seems like a recipe that invites grift.

Nonetheless, a rematch would have been likely anyhow, as this fight delivered the goods. Fury wants it on British soil. The opening odds? Well, they are dead even. No matter who wins most of the rounds, you can’t count out the power Wilder brings to the table, even if Tyson Fury can return from the dead like an Ajin Demi-Human.

Who do you have in the rematch? Will Fury’s technical boxing prevail again, or will Wilder put him down for good this time?
