Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) appears to be unveiling a new championship belt for its upcoming UFC 232 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place a week from Saturday night (Dec. 29, 2018) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That would make sense when you consider that Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson are competing for the vacant 205-pound strap, and even though Daniel Cormier is technically surrendering his division crown, it’s not like he has to return the one around his waist.
Which is why photos like this exist.
A new belt is created for every new champion so why not make a new one? I’ll tell you why, because sometimes the old, classic look is superior. Proof? Head over to the new UFC.com website and tell me you positively love it.
Anyway, there’s an outside chance the revised belt could be for the new 165-pound division, but then again, promotion president Dana White said that’s never going to happen and we all know Uncle Dana would never lie to us.
