Frankie Edgar still eyes Conor McGregor UFC fight - ‘I want to tell my grandkids I fought him’

Frankie Edgar hasn’t been shy in saying he feels he is the man to take down Max Holloway from his terrorizing run in the Featherweight division, which was on full display last Saturday night (Dec. 8, 2018) at UFC 231 against Brian Ortega.

And while a title fight against “Blessed” is “The Answer’s” first choice for his next bout inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon, he has another name in mind should his lobbying efforts fall through.

”I’m hoping I get Max. I’m hoping Max sticks around at 45, and we get to finally get to square up. I think it makes the most sense,” Edgar said, speaking with TMZ Sports (via The Mac Life). “We were supposed to link up, and I think a lot of people talk about that matchup. I don’t think he’s fought someone like myself. I could definitely do some different things in there that Ortega can’t. So that’s what I’m gunning for,” he added.

[If not Holloway], maybe Conor’s free. Conor wants to get down and fight. We were supposed to fight a long time too. If I’m not fighting for the belt, then I guess Conor’s the next best thing.”

Get in line, Frankie.

For Edgar, fighting McGregor would be a tale to tell his grandkids when he’s old and gray.

“He’s the most popular guy of my era. Let’s be real, he is. It’ll be a shame if I retire down the road and I get my kids and grandkids ask me if I ever fought Conor McGregor and I get to say no. I wanna say yeah.”

He will fatten up your bank account, too.

As it stands, Conor McGregor is on another hiatus and waiting to see what — if any — suspensions the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSACA) levies agaisnt him for the now-infamous post-fight brawl (see it) at UFC 223 where he got choked out by Khabib Nurmagomedov.

That means Frankie is sitting pretty in the drivers seat of the 145-pound race, especially after this fight was booked.
