Renato Moicano may not get the next title shot against Featherweight champion Max Holloway, but it looks like he will be getting another fight he always wanted. According to MMA Junkie, UFC is looking to book a showdown between Moicano and ex-145 pound champion Jose Aldo.
The proposed scrap is targeted for UFC on ESPN+ 2, which is scheduled to go down on February 2, 2019 inside Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Renato and his team had been lobbying for a fight against the former champion for some time now, especially after “Junior” knocked out Jeremy Stephens at UFC on FOX 30 this past July (video here). The win was Aldo’s first after previously suffering back-to-back knockout losses to Holloway.
As for Renato, he is currently on a two-fight win steak and is 5-1 so far inside the Octagon with his lone loss coming at the hands of Brian Ortega. The Brazilian bomber was last choking out Cub Swanson in the very first round at UFC 227.
The winner of this fight will definitely move up the ladder for a championship fight, but the potential booking of this bout could open the door for Frankie Edgar to get another crack at winning the 145-pound strap.
