Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), just as it did when Conor McGregor was the lightweight champion, has been forced to put the 155-pound division on ice while reigning titleholder, Khabib Nurmagomedov, sorts out his issues with Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
That was supposed to happen back on Dec. 10, but has now been delayed until late January, and we still don’t know if “The Eagle” will be facing a disciplinary suspension or what will happen to his lightweight strap.
Top contender, Dustin Poirier, doesn’t feel like waiting around to find out. “The Diamond” went on Twitter to call for a title eliminator opposite former interim champion, Tony Ferguson, but it doesn’t sound like “El Cucuy” is interested.
“I liked you better when you were quiet, kid. Don’t ruin a good thing you got goin’ … ‘Diamond.’ Tony Ferguson is tops, much more efficient than Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov in the same day. I already know how to beat you by the way you tweet. Sit down.”

Poirier (24-5, 1 NC) is coming off three straight wins — all finishes — and sits at No. 3 in the official rankings, behind only Ferguson and McGregor. As for “El Cucuy” (24-3), he’s captured 11 straight, scoring eight stoppages along the way.
I guess these days everyone just sits on the bench until they get the fight they want.
