The boy who lived!
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight veteran, Alex Oliveira, is unlikely to forget his submission loss to Gunnar Nelson at UFC 231 last weekend in Toronto (recap), thanks to the giant scar incurred by the Icelander’s nasty elbows.
Watch the blood pour from his skull right here.
Surrendering to “Gunni” was just the second defeat for “Cowboy” across a span of nine fights and is unlikely to hurt his stock, at least in terms of his official ranking (No. 13). As for Nelson, tapping the Brazilian got him back into the win column after getting smashed by Santiago Ponzinibbio last year on Scotland.
Interestingly enough, Oliveira was only suspended 30 days for his injury, while UFC 231 headliner Brian Ortega is facing a possible six-month sit (see all the medical suspensions here). That said, I wouldn’t expect “Cowboy” back for several months, especially if he does this horrible thing to his head.
