TUF season 28 finalists Macy Chiasson and Pannie Kianzad squared off in the tournament finals tonight (Friday, November 30, 2018) from inside the Pearl Theater at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, live and free on Fox Sports 1.
Pannie Kianzad pivoted out repeatedly as Chiasson waded in, looking to close the distance. Chiasson stuffed a shot from Kianzad and countered with her own takedown attempt, driving Kianzad to the cage and looking for a single-leg. Kianzad stuffed it, but ended up with her back to the cage in the clinch. They traded knees as Kianzad looked to work free. Chiasson used her larger frame to keep her pinned, landing several nice knees to the head in the clinch. Kianzad reversed position a few times but got instantly turned back into the cage. Chiasson paired several knees with a big left hand. Kianzad landed a nice right hand as she finally broke free, only to shoot again and get her back instantly taken. Chiasson put her in a body triangle and tried to find a choke with 25 seconds on the clock. She got close, but Kianzad was able to keep her chin down and wait it out.
Chiasson began the second round by promptly pinning Kianzad against the cage. This time, though, Kianzad created space and landed a combination as she broke free. Chaisson returned fire and dropped her! Chiasson dove on Kianzad and Kianzad caught her in an armbar from guard! She went belly-down but Chiasson spun out of it and took her back, looking for that choke again. Kianzad tried to stay on the safe side but Chiasson switched to a short choke and sunk it in! Kianzad had to tap.
Immediately afterwards, Chiasson began comforting a crestfallen Kianzad. They had been friends, on the same team in the TUF house.
Dana White presented her with the trophy, and Macy said she knew no matter what, she knew she was going to be in for a tough bout against Pannie Kianzad. She said Pannie had armbarred her many times in the house, but when Kianzad locked in her armbar attempt tonight, Macy told herself she would have to break it, because she wasn’t going home without the title. She remains undefeated with this victory, a much-needed boost to the UFC’s barely existing women’s featherweight division.
Official result: Macy Chiasson def. Pannie Kianzad via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:11 of Round 2
