Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Glover Teixeira will make his return to the cage at UFC on ESPN+ 1 on Jan. 19 from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., when he takes on young finisher Ion Cutelaba, per a recent report by Newsday.
Teixeira, 39, is coming off a tough decision loss to wrestler Corey Anderson back at UFC Fight Night 134 in which the Brazilian was taken down a total of seven times. The viable knockout artist has only lost back-to-back fights once in his career so history would suggest Teixeira rebounds this January. As one of the bigger names left in the division a victory for Teixeira should land him close to contention as 2019 unfolds.
Cutelaba, 24, is coming off a huge knockout victory over touted Russian veteran Gadzhimurad Antigulov this past July. The fighter known as “Hulk” has already proven to be one of the most exciting fighters at 205 pounds so a finish over Teixeira would do wonders for his light heavyweight stock moving forward. This will undoubtedly be the biggest fight of Cutelaba’s young career and should prove whether or not he’s ready to take his game to the next level.
UFC on ESPN+ 1, also known as UFC Fight Night 143, currently has no main event in place.
