An interesting Featherweight fight has been added to Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) year-end pay-per-view (PPV) event, as Chad Mendes has been booked to face off against Alex Volkanovski at UFC 232 on December 29, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mendes returned to mixed martial arts (MMA) after a two-year sit to defeat Miles Jury via first-round knockout at UFC Fight Night 133 this past summer in Boise, Idaho, proving that ring rust isn’t real (recap). It was a much-needed win for “Money,” as he stepped into the cage on a two-fight losing streak to Frankie Edgar and Conor McGregor.
Scoring his second straight victory won’t be easy, as Volkanovski is as tough as they come. Indeed, “The Hulk” is on an impressive 15 fight win streak, winning all five of his fights inside the Octagon. His last win also came at UFC Fight Night 133, defeating Darren Elkins via unanimous decision on the undercard of the FOX Sports 1 event.
UFC 232 is set to be headlined by a Light Heavyweight title fight that will see former division kingpin Jon Jones take on Alexander Gustafsson. In the co-main event. Cris Cyborg will put her women’s Featherweight title on the line against current women’s bantamweight, queen, Amanda Nunes.
Also, B.J. Penn will make his return to face off against fellow grappling wizard Ryan Hall, while Carlos Condit looks to get back into the win column when he faces off against Michael Chiesa.
