Knockout! Watch Jared Cannonier batter David Branch via second-round TKO at UFC 230

Esther Lin - MMA Fighting

Jared Cannonier cashed in on a short-notice fight last night (Sat., Nov. 3, 2018) at UFC 230 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, when he flattened middleweight contender David Branch via second-round TKO (punches).

Cannonier was training for a fight against Alessio Di Chirico at UFC Fight Night 140 on Nov. 17 but he still had just two weeks to prepare for Branch. While “Killa Gorilla” struggled a bit in the first round he came alive in the second. A perfectly-timed right hand put Branch to the canvas and Cannonier pounced on top for some of the most vicious ground-and-pound the middleweight division has to offer.

With this performance, Cannonier enters the 185-pound division in a hurry. Having fought as high as heavyweight the 34-year-old showed true power last night at MSG. Not even in his final punches that ended Branch but also his ability to get back to his feet and shake off the clinch.

If this is a sign of things to come then the middleweight division just found itself another promising contender.
