Chinese kickboxer tried to one-up Mayweather-Nasukawa, offered $5 million to fight Conor McGregor

Anyone who thinks combat sports has gone completely off the rails should probably be reminded that mixed martial arts (MMA), along with boxing and kickboxing, isn’t a real sport, it’s prize fighting, so promoters — and combatants — throw hands for the biggest prize they can get.

If I’m wrong, then why is this happening?

Case in point: Retired boxing icon, Floyd Mayweather Jr., will fly to Japan on New Year’s Eve to box Japanese kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa in a special exhibition bout that will make “Money” even richer than he already is, assuming “Teppen” sticks to the script.

Not to be outdone, an unnamed kickboxer from China, who probably got word of what western exposure can do for the career (and bank account) of Eastern fighters, tried to replicate the Mayweather spectacle by challenging former UFC lightweight champion, Conor McGregor.

“I had a guy message me just a few days ago — a Chinese kickboxer [who] wanted to do three rounds with Conor for $5 million,” Coach John Kavanagh told The True Geordie Podcast (via “And he was going to put it in escrow. It wasn’t like he was just [joking]. Because again, I get a million messages like that a day, but you just don’t pay attention [to them]. But this guy was connected and it was a legitimate offer. But I know he wouldn’t [do it].”

Chump change for a money-making machine like McGregor.

I doubt Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) would allow “Notorious” to stage any kind of fight — exhibition or otherwise — without being named co-promoter and getting a cut of the pay-per-view (PPV) or advertising profits.

Heck, even if it was held in somebody’s basement, without any cameras or fanfare, it would still get nixed by UFC brass because an untimely injury to McGregor, the promotion’s top star, would be catastrophic to the bottom line.

And besides, do you really think Dana White and Co. want some foreign guy running around the other side of the world bragging about how easy it was to wreck McGregor?

Oh wait...
