Marlon Vera silenced a hostile crowd earlier tonight (Sat., Nov. 17, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 140 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Parque Roca Arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when he submitted hometown favorite Guido Cannetti via second-round rear-naked choke.
While Vera started out slow in the first round, he burst out of the gate in the second after his corner told him to “wake up.” Following vicious knees and punches in the clinch that left Cannetti bloodied, Vera secured a slick takedown before quickly sinking in a rear-naked choke. Exhausted and out of options, Cannetti tapped and the crowd fell silent.

With this performance, Vera earns his second win in three trips to the Octagon this year. The talented 25-year-old may need to flip a switch to get things going, but this finish over a tough fighter like Cannetti proves how promising the 25-year-old really is. Vera has already lost to top bantamweight contender John Lineker so it will be interesting to see how “Chito” performs if he gets another crack at the top 15.
