Colby Covington manager: UFC eyes Tyron Woodley title fight at UFC 233 on Jan. 26

A fight between current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and interim title holder, Colby Covington, has long been on fight fans’ wish list. And it could finally see the light of day.

According to Colby’s manager, Dan Lambert, the promotion has reached out to the “Chaos” camp to see if Covington would be ready to throw down at the upcoming UFC 233 pay-per-view (PPV) event on January 26, 2018 in Anaheim, California.

He said as much during a recent interview with Fightful via (

“The timing on the September fight [at UFC 228] didn’t work for Colby cause he had just had some surgery and it would have been a crazy quick turnaround. They’ve reached out and asked if Colby would be available in January on the 26th show. But not sure if T-Wood’s gonna be available for that show. He’s still getting over some surgery himself on his hand, so I’m not quite sure on when that fight’s gonna be but if I had to guess, it would be on the January or the February show. Could trickle into March depending on T-Wood’s hand.”

Indeed, “T-Wood” went under the knife to take care of a bum hand shortly after submitting Darren Till at UFC 228 in Dallas (see it).

As for Colby, he was supposed to be stripped of his interim tag as soon as the fight between Till and Woodley took place. But according to Lambert, no one from UFC has reached out to inform the fighter that he is no longer champion.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter should the fight come to fruition as only one can be champion once the dust settles. Possibly in as little as two months.

As it stands, UFC 233 is set to feature a Flyweight title fight between current champion Henry Cejudo and Bantamweight king, T.J. Dillashaw. Also, Ben Askren is expected to make his much-anticipated Octagon debut at the event against Robbie Lawler.
