Bobby Moffett’s Octagon victory may have come with a little bit of controversy, but the promising featherweight still ended up edging out veteran Chas Skelly earlier tonight (Sat., Nov. 10, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 139 from inside Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, with a second-round technical submission (D’Arce choke).
After some back-and-forth scrambles Moffett was able to gain the upper hand on the ground by securing a tight D’Arce choke attempt. Skelly, having never been submitted in his MMA career, fought well and started to create some space. But after Moffett tightened up his squeeze it looked as if Skelly temporarily went limp. That’s when the referee stepped in and called the fight, only to have Skelly immediately wake up and protest the stoppage. After some instant replay review the referee confirmed his initial decision and “Wolfman” was awarded the win.

With this performance, Moffett enters the UFC’s featherweight division with a big win over an established veteran. The MMA Lab prospect has now finished each of his last three fights and looks primed for a big 2019 campaign under the UFC banner. It will be interesting to see how Moffett’s size and finishing ability stack up against more explosive competition at 145 pounds.
