While Anthony Smith and Michael Johnson were fighting their way to victory in Moncton, New Brunswick on Saturday night, UFC president Dana White was in Los Angeles alongside Ben Affleck, Rob Lowe, and Magic Johnson for game four of the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and L.A. Dodgers.
White is a longtime Boston Red Sox fan and was spotted in the stands supporting his team as they won 9-6, putting them ahead in the best of seven series three games to one. It was a come from behind affair that saw the Dodgers take the lead in the sixth inning, only to have the Sox pull in five runs in the ninth to clinch another win.
Fortunately for light heavyweight Anthony Smith, his own come from behind win over Volkan Oezdemir in the main event of UFC Moncton (watch it here) occurred long after the ballgame ended, so White probably heard his emotional plea for a title shot. Smith may not have been so lucky had things played out like game three of the World Series on Friday night, which lasted a record breaking 18 innings.
No big deal for MMA fans, who are used to events starting at 6PM and lasting until 2AM.
Here’s a partial list of the star studded World Series crowd as reported by ESPN: Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Anthony Anderson, Jason Bateman, Deacon Frey, Tobias Harris, Johnny Hekker, Don Johnson, Magic Johnson, Larry King, Michelle Kwan, Rob Lowe, Boban Marjanovic, Omar Miller, Charlize Theron, Ryan Tedder, Meghan Trainor, Dana White, Kirk Gibson and Dennis Eckersley, Mary Hart, Don Newcombe, Ron Cey and Steve Garvey, Sandy Koufax, Edward James Olmos, Kobe Bryant, Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra, Luis Tiant, Bob Costas, Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffmann, Joe Torre, Ann Meyers Drysdale, Drew Taggart, Mandy Moore, Angela Bassett, and Alex Morgan.
But did they have a gang of dudes in nun outfits? I don’t think so. Advantage: Moncton.
Game 5 goes down tonight, Sunday October 28th at Dodger Stadium.
