Misha Cirkunov and Patrick Cummins faced off in a pivotal light heavyweight contest tonight (Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018) from Moncton Events Center in New Brunswick, Canda, live and free on Fox Sports 1.
Cirkunov rocked Cummins immediately and Cummins shot in, bodylocking Cirkunov against the cage. Cirkunov showed his strength by refusing to go down, no matter how hard Cummins squeezed and lifted. Cirkunov reversed positions and landed maybe a dozen body knees before taking Cummins down and going straight to mount! HE LOCKED UP AN ARM-TRIANGLE AND IT WAS ALL OVER! Incredibly quick, clinical work by the Latvian-Canadian.
Afterwards, Misha Cirkunov says that it was very important just to relax, and enjoy this. He says this is him, version 2.0, and not to doubt him. In regards to his arm-triangle choke, he said he just breathed through it and committed to it, and once he locked his hands he wasn’t letting go until the referee stopped him. That’s a terrifying mix of calm and killer. He called out Volkan Oezdemir, saying he doesn’t believe they really fought- Volkan caught him, and credit to him, but he is climbing the ranks and they will dance again.
Official result: Misha Cirkunov def. Patrick Cummins via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 2:40 of Round 1
