Anthony Smith continued his light heavyweight surge last night (Sat., Oct. 27, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 138 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, by finishing former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir via third-round submission (rear-naked choke).
Both fighters had really good moments in this main event. Oezdemir seemed to control “Lionheart” in the early rounds as Smith opted to tire the Swiss contender. Smith’s gameplan came full circle in the third round when he started to land clean shots on the feet. An eventual takedown led to back control and that led to a rear-naked choke attempt. Oezdemir fought valiantly but couldn’t defend the hands forever.

With this performance, Smith locks down his third-straight victory at 205 pounds with each win coming by way of finish. The former middleweight again showed another layer to his game, this time playing cat-and-mouse until “No Time” made a mistake. It was quite impressive.
But was it impressive enough to earn “Lionheart” his first UFC title shot?
