Not the fight, the mic, which picked up the audio of Khabib Nurmagomedov shouting at Conor McGregor during their UFC 229 record-breaking title fight, taking place last Saturday night (Oct. 6, 2018) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The Eagle” won by fourth-round submission to retain his 155-pound strap (highlights here).
It was a little disappointing to hear McGregor tell Nurmagomedov that it was “just business,” suggesting his supercharged pre-fight hype (sample it here) was manufactured to help generate pay-per-view (PPV) buys.
I mean duh, of course it was, but it’s hard to not feel swindled when a fighter breaks kayfabe. And as you can see from “The Eagle’s” leapfrog into the crowd to brawl with Dillon Danis, it’s clearly more than just business to him.
It’s personal, because he’s cut from a different cloth.
No word yet on what’s next for either suspended fighter. McGregor is expected to become a billionaire after peddling his new whiskey, while Nurmagomedov is busy breaking bread with Vladimir Putin back in Russia.
As far as a potential rematch, I wouldn’t expect that anytime soon, so long as this fighter has something to say about it.
