Max Holloway vs Frankie Edgar Featherweight title fight booked for UFC 222

March 3rd’s UFC PPV from Las Vegas has its main event as Frankie Edgar gets the shot he lost in 2017 after being injured.

Max Holloway’s second title defense is on the verge of being locked in, and things aren’t getting any easier for the featherweight champ. As first reported by MMA Junkie and confirmed via ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, “Blessed” will fight Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on March 3rd from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Holloway and Edgar were originally booked to fight at UFC 218 on December 2nd, but Edgar was forced to pull out after breaking his orbital bone in sparring (something Dana White sounded not so thrilled with). That shot ended up going to Jose Aldo, giving the former featherweight kingpin a chance at redemption.

Unfortunately for Aldo, Holloway did exactly the same thing to him at UFC 218 as he did when they fought at UFC 212, finishing the Brazilian in the third round just 30 seconds later than their original bout.

Now Edgar will step back into his spot s #1 contender, a place he earned with wins over Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez. Max Holloway will have to prove he can handle the relentless wrestling pressure Edgar brings, which is a big stylistic change from the many primarily striking-based fighters he’s taken out during his 12 fight UFC win streak.

UFC 222 is just starting to really solidify with this main event booking. Also on the card: Hector Lombard vs. CB Dollaway, Andrei Arlovski vs. Stefan Struve, Cat Zingano vs. Ketlen Vieira, Sean O’Malley vs. Andre Soukhamthath, and Mackenzie Dern making her UFC debut against Ashley Yoder.
