White: ‘Showtime is full of s—t, I despise those f—king guys’

There was a time in the somewhat-distant past when Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White was a huge fan of Strikeforce. The Showtime network, however, which aired the majority of Scott Coker’s televised events, will forever be in White’s doghouse.

Especially after the way it handled the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match.

“Think about this and I don’t give a shit about Showtime’s fucking full of shit press release they put out — it’s the biggest fight ever,” White told Yahoo! Sports (transcribed by MMA Weekly). “Ever in combat sports history.”

The numbers released by Showtime were far different than what White and his band of “Money” men released in the wake of last August’s pugilistic spectacle. The former had May-Mac falling short of breaking the pay-per-view (PPV) record while the latter placed it at No. 1, all time.

“The thing did over 6.7 million buys and if the service didn’t drop, we would have gotten closer to 7 million,” White continued. “The way that they handled that press release and what they did — I didn’t trust them before and now I despise those fucking guys. The Showtime guys, I’ll never work with them again. Ever.”

I don't think they’re on the page with that one, either.

On the heels of his success with Mayweather vs. McGregor, White is expected to dip his toe into the boxing world later this year. It will be interesting to see what resistance he faces — if any — in a sport where Showtime already has proven success.
