Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to network television last weekend with the UFC on FOX 27: “Jacare vs Brunson 2” mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza, which took place last Sat. night (Jan. 27, 2018) inside Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

UFC on FOX 27 was headlined by the middleweight rematch between top contenders Ronaldo Souza and Derek Brunson, which “Jacare” won by first-round knockout (see it). Elsewhere on the card, grizzled veteran Dennis Bermudez came up short in a super-close contest against venerable featherweight bruiser Andre Fili (recap here).

While three of the four combatants mentioned above were able to escape lengthy medical suspensions, Justine Kish, Vinc Pinchel, and Austin Arnett were not as fortunate, drawing indefinite timeouts from North Carolina Boxing Authority.

Full list of UFC on FOX 27 medical suspensions (via MMA Fighting) include:

Justin Kish: Suspended indefinitely, requires medical clearance for nasal fracture (x-ray), right knee, and left shoulder
Vinc Pinchel: Suspended indefinitely, requires medical ophthalmology clearance on right eye injury
Austin Arnett: Suspended indefinitely, requires medical clearance for nasal trauma (x-ray for possible fracture); minimum suspension of 30 days due to TKO loss
Randa Markos: Suspended 180 days maximum for left knee pain (recommends MRI)
Derek Brunson: Suspended 30 days due to TKO loss
Dennis Bermudez: Suspended 30 days due to right foot
Jordan Rinaldi: Suspended 30 days due to TKO loss
Drew Dober: Suspended 30 days due to left eyebrow
Frank Camacho: Suspended 30 days
Bobby Green: Suspended 30 days due to right knee pain
Erik Koch: Suspended 30 days due to left eye laceration
Mirsad Bektic: Suspended 30 days due to left leg pain
Godofredo Pepey: Suspended 30 days due to TKO loss
Mara Romero Borella: Suspended 30 days due to left elbow pain
Niko Price: Suspended 30 days due to laceration on right brow

There you have it.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
