Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back on television tonight (Sat., Feb. 3, 2018) with the UFC Fight Night 125 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, which features a middleweight main event between Lyoto Machida and Eryk Anders, who battle for a spot in the 185-pound title chase.

Elsewhere on the card, held inside Mangueirinho Gymnasium in Belem, Brazil, undefeated flyweight prospect Priscila Cachoeira makes her Octagon debut against bantamweight import Valentina Shevchenko, while Desmond Green and Michel Prazeres hook ‘em up in lightweight action.

Anders still on his back as Machida picks away at his legs. Machida dives in and Anders scrambles up. Left to the body from Anders, leg kick from Machida. One minute to go. Low kick again. 10-9 Machida.

Round 2: Low kick exchange. Big left hand catches Machida and Anders ties up, landing a knee inside. Good knee by Machida before he separates. One minute in. Anders still pressing forward. Low kicks and jabs from Machida. Two minutes in. Machida tries to leap in and Anders lands a cuffing left. Two minutes to go.

Body kick, left hand, than an inside trip into guard. One minute in. Short ground-and-pound from Shevchenko. Nasty elbow. More savage ground-and-pound opens Cachoeira up. She’s just battering the Brazilian. Two minutes in. She postures up and lands more crunching elbows. More damage piling up. Two minutes to go.

Shevchenko’s assault slows a bit, Another heavy elbow. One minute to go. More elbows. 10-7 Shevchenko.

Round 2: Cachoeira still going forward, gets tripped to the canvas. Shevchenko takes side control. Crucifix for Shevchenko and down come the punches. One minute in. Elbows now too. Shevchenko looks for an americana, no dice. Back to the crucifix two minutes in. This doesn’t need to continue. More punches from Shevchenko. Look, just stop this. Cachoeira gets her arm free. Two minutes to go.

Yet more punches from Shevchenko, who hops into mount. She postures up and bashes Cachoeira. Cachoeira gives up her back and the punishment continues. Stop this goddamn fight. Shevchenko locks up the RNC and finally Yamasaki steps in.

155 lbs.: Desmond Green vs. Michel Prazeres

Round 1: Prazeres tries a pair of head kicks. Jab from Green. Good low kick from Prazeres answered in kind. Prazeres catches a kick and they scramble a minute in. Green hits a takedown and looks for the back. Green drags him down, but Prazeres scrambles up into a takedown attempt of his own. Two minutes in. Green avoids a trip and reverses against the cage. Double unders for Green. They separate. Two minutes to go.

Straight left from Green as Prazeres sends out kicks. Good left by Green. 1-2 from Prazeres and he hits a trip. Green scrambles with him. but Prazeres ends up on top. Goddard pauses the fight and warns Prazeres for striking to the back of the head. One minute to go, back on the feet. Prazeres looks for a single-leg, can’t get it, eats knees to the body. Green takes him down, can’t keep him there. Prazeres flubs a head-and-arm throw and Green takes side control. Prazeres looks to set up a triangle at the bell. 10-9 Green.

Round 2: Left hook lands for Prazeres, Green comes back with combinations. Low kick by Prazeres. Overhand right. One minute in. Green shoots, completes it into guard. Prazeres kicks his way back to the feet and lands a right hand. Green ducks a left hand and looks for a takedown as Prazeres lands elbows. Two minutes in. Prazeres moves back to the center of the Octagon and trips Green to the mat, then steps right into mount with two minutes to go.

Round 1: Johnson putting together punches early. Low kicks from Golm. Straight left from Johnson and they die up. Knee from Johnson. Hard rights to the body inside. One minute in. They jockey for position until Johnson puts him on the fence. More knees from johnson. They separate two minutes in. Straight left lands for Johnson. Hard left hand. Round 2: Johnson slings early punches. Golm tries a head kick and they slug until Johnson puts him back on the fence. Browne elbows form Golm, who reverses position. They separate. One minute in. Johnson steps back into the clinch and fires knees as he takes Golm to the cage. Golm reverses. Johnson reserves in turn and they separate, exchanging in the center. Two minutes in. Johnson puts him back on the cage. Knees to the thigh. Two minutes to go.

God right hand by the Brazilian, but Vera catches a kick and looks to strike. Leg kick from Vera. Two minutes in. Counter right from Andrade after eating a body kick. Low kick by the Brazilian. Vera tries a head kick. Body kick by Andrade. Andrade lands a heavy right hand on the fence. Andrade right hand whizzes over Vera’s had. Vera lands a combination that draws a nod. Vera leg kick. Wheel kick catches Smith on the jaw and Santos follows up with a head kick, but Smith somehow scrambles into mount a minute in. Santos spins into guard after about 40 seconds. Two minutes in. Smith playing a defensive guard. Right hands to the head and body from Santos. Two minutes to go.

Short punches from Santos against the fence. Smith trying to work his way up, eats punches. Smith looks for a single-leg and chases Santos, who smashes him with a savage elbow. 170 lbs.: Tim Means vs. Sergio Moraes

Round 1: Means looking for straights, Moraes flinging overhands. Moraes pulls guard with double overhooks. Means trying to land short punches while Moares controls his arm. One minute in. Means breaks his grip and stands. Low kick lands for him. Right hand by Moraes, who blocks a head kick. Means catches a body kick, Moraes tries to pull guard. Means stomps his leg a couple times and waves him up. Heavy right hand catches Means and Moraes is throwing heat. Means pops him with the jab. Straight right from Moraes. Moraes slinging flurries while Means pumps his jab. Two minutes to go.

Right hand appears to briefly rattle Means. Brief clinch. Another right hand by Means. These flurries are surprisingly accurate so far. Moraes shoots, stuffed. One minute to go. Round 2: Means digs a left to the body, whacks away at Moraes’ leg. Check hook. Means much busier, picking away at the lead leg. One minute in. Overhand right from Moraes, counter left by Means. Good knee from Means. Means blocks a kick and counters with a straight left. Counter left rattles Moraes. Means pressuring, eats another big right hand. To the body this time. Two minutes in. Means plugs the body and head with lefts. Now Means avoiding the bigger swings, landing with straight punches. Uppercut and straight left. One minute to go. Overhand right by Moraes. Means to the body once again. Sneaky head kick from Means. 10-9 Means.

Round 3: Means firing combos, Moraes slinging heat. Body kick by Moraes. Good exchanges. Head kick attempt from Means, who cracks him with the jab. 2-3 by Moraes a minute in. Body kick by Moraes, teep from Means. Moraes to the body, overhand right. They trade in the center. Nice 1-2 from Means two minutes in. Head kick from Moraes, straight left and knee from Means. 155 lbs.: Damir Hadzovic vs. Alan Patrick

Round 1: Patrick slips early and Hadzovic tries to rush, but gets taken down for his troubles. Side control for the Brazilian. Hadzovic works his way up, eats a knee, presses him against the fence. Patrick hits another takedown and puts in a hook on the way up. He kicks Hadzovic’s leg out, can’t complete the back take and Hadzovic turns to face him. They trade knees against the cage two minutes in. Hadzovic nearly cracks him with a knee after avoiding a takedown and they separate. Patrick lands a pair of left hands and hits a double-leg into guard. Hadzovic turns for an armbar. Nothing doing. Two minutes to go.

Ground-and-pound from Patrick, who avoids another armbar attempt. Hadzovic scoots to the fence, eats punches as he makes his way up. Good knee from Hadzovic, but he tries it again and gets taken down with a minute to go. Hard hammerfists. Hadzovic again scrambles up and knees the body. Hadzovic grabs the fence to avoid a takedown, gets taken down anyway and bashed with left hands on one knee. 10-9 Patrick.

Round 2:Patrick tries an early takedown and a wheel kick, neither connect. Next takedown works and he sets up in guard. He looks for the back a minute in, gets both hooks. He tries a neck crank, no dice. Hadzovic trying to stand. Two minutes in. Patrick alternating between punches and choke attempts. He gets Hadzovic back on the ground and the hand fight continues. Two minutes to go.

Hadzovic trying to punch over his shoulder. One minute to go. Patrick seemingly content to take a breather. 10-8 Patrick.

Round 3: Patrick lands a knee to the body, takedown stuffed. Hadzovic whacks him with a couple body shots before getting taken down into guard yet again. One minute in. Patrick not doing much in the way of ground-and-pound.Hadzovic just playing defense, not doing anything to stand. Patrick postures out of another armbar attempt. Two minutes to go.

Hadzovic gets to his knees and stands. Another takedown and back onto the back. One minute to go. Full body triangle for Patrick. He rides it out until the bell. 10-9 Patrick.

Final result: Patrick def. Hadzovic by unanimous decision


115 lbs.: Polyana Viana vs. Maia Stevenson

Round 1: They trade early punches until Viana hits a hip toss near the fence. Stevenson uses a whizzer to stand and takes her down, only to wind up in immediate armbar danger. One minute in. Viana gets Stevenson’s back against the mat and cranks, but Stevenson survives and presses her against the cage. Viana threatening an anaconda choke two minutes in. She transitions to a guillotine and takes her down into half guard. Two minutes to go.

Good right hands by the Brazilian. Now she passes to mount with 80 seconds to work, then takes the back and immediately locks up the choke.

Final result: Viana def. Stevenson by submission (rear naked choke)


135 lbs.: Iuri Alcantara vs. Joe Soto

Round 1: Heavy body kick from Alcantara in the early going. They trade in the center. Long shot from Soto denied and he gets hurt by a body kick. Alcantara storms after him with every strike in the book, ultimately dropping him with a left hand and bashing away until Osiris Maia finally wakes up and steps in.

Final result: Alcantara def. Soto by TKO (punches)


125 lbs.: Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Joseph Morales

Round 1: Figueiredo tries to spin and Morales ties up, only to get tripped into half guard against the cage. Morales nearly hits a sweep, but Figueiredo keeps his balance a minute in. Butterfly guard. Figueiredo stands over him, avoiding upkicks and shoves Morales to the mat when he tries to stand. Figueiredo dropping heavy hammerfists amidst the onslaught of upkicks. Two minutes in. Hard left hand. Morales gets butterfly guard back, eats an elbow. Two minutes to go.

Full guard now. Figueiredo staying tight, landing short blows. Morales’ control is good, but he’s still taking some shots. REf stands them up with a minute to go. Figueiredo catches him coming in with a knee-buckling jab and slaps on a guillotine from half guard. Morales survives without issue and Figueiredo goes for some Tarzan-esque hammerfists. 10-9 Figueiredo.

Round 2: Figueiredo fires a Superman punch and marches after Morales, flinging punches and elbows. Body kick from Morales. Figueiredo ducks a 1-2 and hits another takedown, avoiding a guillotine in the process. Figueiredo doing a good job of shutting down Morales’ scrambles. Full guard. Figueiredo sneaks in elbows two minutes in. Figueiredo stands over him, drops a right hand as Morales blatantly grabs the fence for like five combined seconds. Morales makes it to his feet. Two minutes to go.

Left hook from the Brazilian. Body kick. Morales clips him with a counter right. Figueiredo still pressing forward. One minute to go. Low kick from Morales. Solid knee in the clinch. They trade left hooks on the fence and Figueiredo gets the better of it, dropping Morales hard and following up for the finish.
