Latest UFC rankings update: Ronda Rousey remains ranked, Georges St-Pierre does not

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently completed its UFC on FOX 27: "Jacare vs. Brunson 2" mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which took place last Sat. night (Jan. 27, 2018) inside Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

While we expected some movement in the middleweight rankings, thanks to Ronaldo Souza's knockout win over Derek Brunson in the 185-pound main event (watch it), the entire division was shook up after the promotion bounced former champion Georges St-Pierre from the middleweight rankings.

Probably because the ailing "Rush" has no timetable for return, though it doesn't seem to matter that Ronda Rousey no longer fights for the promotion, as "Rowdy" still occupies the No. 9 spot. On the bright side, St-Pierre remains ranked among the top pound-for-pound fighters.

Sorry, still not enough featherweight fighters to make a division for Cris Cyborg.

Here's how the rankings work, courtesy of UFC.com:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, *NR = Not previously ranked).

There you have it.

You can expect these standings to change -- particularly in the middleweight division -- around this time next week, as the promotion is set to uncork UFC Fight Night 125: "Machida vs. Anders" this Sat. night (Feb. 3, 2018) inside Mangueirinho Gymnasium in Belem, Brazil (more on that fight card here).
