Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently put the finishing touches on its upcoming UFC on FOX 27: “Jacare vs. Brunson 2” mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza, which takes place this Sat. night (Jan. 27, 2018) inside Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
UFC on FOX 27 will be headlined by the middleweight rematch between top contenders Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Derek Brunson. Elsewhere on the card, grizzled veteran Dennis Bermudez looks to quell the uprising of venerable featherweight bruiser Andre Fili.

Round 1: Tentative start to the fight. Both falling short with strikes in the first minute. No clean contact yet. Brunson sending out more kicks than usual. Good counter right by Jacare. Brunson now looking a little more aggressive. 1-2 lands for him. Right hand by Jacare. Brunson rushes and Jacare with a reactive takedown, but Brunson scrambles up with two minutes to go.
Brunson with a good combo, eats the right hand again. Head kick drops Brunson and Jacare calmly walks him down, thumping the staggered Brunson with punches for the finish.
Final result: Souza def. Brunson by TKO (head kick and punches)
145 lbs.: Dennis Bermudez vs. Andre Fili
Round 1: Bermudez advancing, as usual. Low kicks. Low kick from Fili and Bermudez shoots, stuffed. Fili switching stances and looking for straight punches. They trade jabs a minute in. Bermudez pumps his jab, eats a right. Nice body shot. Bermudez targeting the legs. Bermudez grabs a body lock against the cage. Two minutes in. Fili defending well thus far. Bermudez with a left hook on the break. Fili combination. Two minutes to go.
Jab lands for Bermudez. Leg kick. Fili shoots, gets him down, can’t keep him down. Leg kick by Bermudez. Right hand inside. Fili pops him with some counters as he ties up. Leg kick exchange. Bermudez’s calf kicks are doing damage, but FIli’s picking him off well. Another well-timed takedown by Fili, another quick rise from Bermudez. 10-9 Bermudez.
Round 2: Bermudez muscle shis way in once again. Fili defending well. Another takedown from Fili, looking for the back. Bermudez spins, can’t get an inside trip a minute in. They separate. Fili shoots, abandons it, eats a leg kick two minutes in. Another leg kick. Fili’s hobbling a bit, but landing his jab. Fili shoots, no dice. Two minutes to go.
Hard left hook from Fili. Good exchange it he center. Fili shoots, denied by underhooks. Bermudez keeping him against the fence, lands on the break. Fili times the next leg kick for a takedown into half guard with a minute to go. Full guard. Bermudez rises, looks for a takedown, lands a right on the break. 10-9 Bermudez.
Round 3: Bermudez lands more early low kicks. Fili fires his jab, slugs it out for a bit. Good counter right lands for him. One minute in. Low kick by Bermudez. No dice on a takedown attempt, leg kick lands. Clean head kick from Fili, Bermudez eats it. Fili shoots, can’t quite get it. Bermudez puts him back on the fence. Fili takes one to the nards, takes his time. Low kick from Bermudez, then another. Bermudez lands a jab after taking one. Fili lands a hook and Bermudez briefly ties up with two minutes to go.
Bermudez stuffs a takedown and starts swinging big. Counter right lands. Leg kick from Bermudez. Jab exchange. Another calf kick, combination upstairs with a minute to go. Left hand by Fili. Bermudez walking him down. Body shot ands, Fili comes back with a right. Fili takedown stuffed. Good elbow from Bermudez, who completes his first takedown into half guard. 155 lbs.: Gregor Gillespie vs. Jordan Rinaldi
Round 1: Rinaldi with early left hooks. Gillespie pressuring, lands one of his own. Nice head kick from Rinaldi, Gillespie walks through it and they trade near the fence. Rinaldi dimes a knee, Gillespie eats it and catches it but can’t use it. Gillespie with a smooth single-leg into half guard a minute in. He makes his way to side control, keeping plenty of pressure on Rinaldi’s neck. Two minutes in. Full mount for Gillespie. He takes the back when the arm triangle isn’t there. Two minutes to go.
Great control from Gillespie, but RInaldi regains half guard. Gillespie uses a guillotine threat to pass to side control, then mount. Rinaldi gets to his knees. One minute to go. Gillespie gets both hooks in and drills Rinaldi with right hands. He flattens Rinaldi out and postures up, dropping shots until the ref steps in.
Final result: Gillespie def. Rinaldi by TKO (punches)
170 lbs.: Frank Camacho vs. Drew Dober
Round 1: Camacho orthodox, Dober southpaw. Dober to the body. Right hook upstairs, leg kick. They tie up and Camacho takes him to the fence, trading punches. He hits a trip into side control a minute in. Dober scrambles up, lands a knee and separates. Camacho to the body. Dober leg kick. Camacho pressuring, avoids a Superman punch. Dober sticks a left to the body, then upstairs. Low kick connects. Two minutes to go.
Both land in the center, then tie up. Camacho pressing him against the cage. Dober lands an elbow, gets tripped into half guard. One minute to go. Camacho threatens an arm triangle, then back to guard. Dober tries an armbar, eats punches. Dober makes his way up and gets clipped by a right before the bell. 10-9 Camacho.
Round 2: Dober shoots, stuffed, and they jockey for position in the clinch. Camacho threatens a guillotine and counters a takedown into guard. Dober scrambles up. One minute in. Hard left hand by Dober, then a body shot. Combinations to the head. Dober going low-high with left hands, shrugs off a right hand. Dober teeing off on him. Camacho visibly winded as he circles off. Camacho with a right downstairs, eats a 1-2. Straight left by Dober. Right hook. The left hand landing practically every time two minutes in. Camacho can’t keep his back off the fence, getting pieced up to the head and body. Camacho comes back with a knee downstairs. Dober leg kick. Head kick and 1-2 by Dober. Round 3: They trade power punches early and Dober shoots. Dober’s cut from something. Camacho lands a combination, eats a body kick. Dober looking to counter. One minute in. Dober shoots and Camacho whacks him with hammerfists. Dober looking for a single-leg, but falls victim to the same trip that Camacho used early. He scrambles back up two minutes in and they go back to trading punches. Good knee by Camacho. Body kick by Dober, right hand and knee by Camacho. BIG shots by Dober, Camacho right in here with him. Both men landing heavy leather. Two minutes to go.
Leg kick by Dober and a combination lands. Camacho’s still marching after him. Hard combination by Camacho and they tie up. Knee and elbow by Dober. They clinch briefly once again. One minute to go. Round 1: Green orthodox, Koch southpaw. Green slips a combination, eats a leg kick. Green goes southpaw and jabs the body. Koch with a jab in return. 1-2 from Koch dings Green a minute in. Another heavy 1-2 from Koch. Green with a hard 1-2 and right hook soon after. Green pressing him into the cage. Koch avoids a trip and separates. Two minutes in. Oblique kicks from Green. Right hook from Koch lands clean. 1-2 lands for him and Green shoots. Koch reverses position, eating knees to the thigh. Two minutes to go.
Koch completes an outside trip into half guard. Looking to set up an arm triangle. HE drops it and blasts Green with elbows until he gives up his back. Koch looking for the RNC, not there. Here come the punches. Green slips out the back door and stands. Body kick lands for him. Head kick, Koch answers with a 1-2. Green grabs the rear waist lock and knees Koch’s thighs.Solid shots inside by Green. 10-9 Koch.
Round 2: Left hand by Koch. They tie up and Green lands knees inside, eating a right hook on the way out. Low kick by Green. Looking for the body a minute in. They trade jabs, body kick exchange. Green with a right downstair, knee to the body, elbows, punches on the break. Koch now coming back, catches him in the ear with a right hook. Green body kick two minutes in. Green puts him on the fence, Koch circles out. They trade in teh fence and Koch lands several quality left hands. Green tries to change levels, lands a knee, eats a left. Two minutes to go.
Green lands a right cross, eats a clean 1-2. Green body kick, he gets caught leaning with another clean left. Green with a knee to the body, marching forward with his hands down. Clash of heads. One minute to go. They tie up, more knees by Green. Green with some body shots, left hand upstairs. He cuffs Koch with rights in the clinch before the bell. 10-9 Green.
Round 3: 1-2 from Green and they’re trading. Hard right inside. Koch pushing him to the fence, gets reversed. Right hand by Koch. Green steps into the clinch with a left a minute in. Knees to the body. They trade jabs on the way out. Body kick from Green, straight right. Hard left by Koch on the break. Double rights by Green, swaggering forward. One minute in. Green with a right to the body. Koch’s output isn’t there and he eats another 1-2 before tying up. It’s Green putting him on the cage. Koch grabs a guillotine, gets taken down into side control. Two minutes to go.
Koch explodes and gets into top position. Green hits the switch and retakes side control. Elbows to the body. One minute to go. Green tries to pin the arm, can’t do so but continues landing punches. He ends the fight with some huge swings. 10-9 Green.

Round 1: Big counter right by Bektic early on. Pepey falls short with a wheel kick. Bektic tries a hook kick. Spinning back kick from Pepey a minute in. Bektic whiffs on a 1-1-2. Pepey catches him coming in with an uppercut, eats a right and a left. Two minutes in. Jab from Pepey, leg kick from Bektic. Bektic plants a right hand in Pepey’s solar plexus and the Brazilian goes down in agony. A few more punches and in comes the ref.
Final result: Bektic def. Pepey by TKO (punches)
125 lbs.: Mara Romero Borella vs. Katlyn Chookagian
Round 1: Low kick from Borella to start. Body kick by Chookagian. Borella tries to close, cannot do so. double rights from the Italian. Chookagian comes back with a 1-2. One minute in. Borella with some low leg kicks. Chookagian attacks the thigh, eats another low kick. 2-1 by Borella. Two minutes in. Hard overhand right by Borella. Right hand by Chookagian. Back to the leg kicks for Borella. Two minutes to go.
Chookagian lands a side kick. Lots of kiais from Chookagian, but not much contact. Chookagian lands a body shot, takes some swatting head shots in return. Round 1: Lima looking for leg kicks early. Markos steps into the clinch and presses her against the cage. One minute in. Lima reverses position with double underhooks. Two minutes in. Now Markos reverses. Still pressing her against the fence. Two minutes to go.
Markos gets the body lock, Lima re-inserts a hook, reverses position. Markos reverses. One minute to go. Lima reverses and hits a takedown. Markos sweeps into mount with twenty seconds to work. Short right hands, elbows to the body. 10-9 Markos.
Round 2: Leg kick from Lima, punching flurry from Markos. Nice counter to a trip takedown by Lima, winding up on top. One minute in. She settles in a low guard. Ref stands them up before long. More leg kicks from Lima two minutes in, Markos tries to respond with punches. Lima fires a teep, falls victim to an outside trip. Markos nearly in mount against the cage. Now full mount. She only gets a couple hammerfists off before Lima regains half guard. Two minutes to go.
Hard short right hands piling up for Markos. Mixing it up to the body and head. One minute to go. Lima looks for a sweep, then looks to set up an armbar. Nothing doing. 10-9 Markos.
Round 3: The exchange and Lima hauls Markos over to the fence. Slick hip toss right into mount by Markos. Solid punches, hammerfists, and elbows. One minute in. Half guard now. Fairly sedate at the moment. two minutes in. Markos passes to side control with just over two minutes to go.
Lima gets to her feet, takes some knees to the thigh. One minute to go. Lima reverses position, looks for trips. Markos takes a knee, reverses. 10-9 Markos.

Round 1: Kish on the front foot, lands a low kick after taking a right hand. Kim firing her jab. One minute in. Leg kicks from Kish. 1-2 lands for Kim. Good combination from Kish, body kick and left hook connect. Kish lands a body kick and leg kick. Kim with a left hook as she takes another leg kick. Two minutes to go.
Kim pops Kish with a jab as Kish fires a head kick, knocking her over. More low kicks with a minute to go. Again. Kim still looking for right hands. Right hand from Kish, then a harder one. 10-9 Kish.
Round 2: They trade, Kish gets the better of it. Kish low kick, then to the body. She’s countering Kim’s punches with them to good effect. Kish tries a body lock and they trade rights. One minute in. Kish continuing to press forward. Stiff jab by Kim. Two minutes in. Leg kicks still piling up. To the inside this time. Every time Kim tries to step in she eats either a leg kick or a right hand.Now she lands a right. Two minutes to go.
Overhand right by Kish, another soon after. Body kick. Kish is doing a good job of slipping what right hands do reach her. Heavy hook by Kish has Kim blinking with a minute to go. 2-3 from Kim after eating yet another leg kick. 10-9 Kish.
Round 3: Kish looking confident, tries a hook kick. Glancing spinning back fist. Kim moving with more urgency but not really throwing as of yet. Another cracking hook by Kish. Jab knocks Kish off-balance and they trade shots, only for Kim to catch a finger in the eye. One minute in. Cross counter by Kish. Kim’s throwing 1-2s with more abandon now. Another right hand from Kish. Hard side kick. Kim’s going for it. Two minutes in. Left hook by Kim, right hand by Kish. They are slugging. More punches from Kish. Kim finds the mark with a 1-2. Two minutes to go.
Kim with a 1-2, eats a counter left. Low kick from Kish; not many of those this round. Right from Kim, spin from Kish. They continue to exchange. One minute to go. Swiping right by Kim. Kish lands a head kick to no effect. Kish chops the leg once again. Kish grabs the Thai plum and fires knees, eating a right before the bell. 10-9 Kish.
Final result: Kim def. Kish by unanimous decision
155 lbs.: Vinc Pichel vs. Joaquim Silva
Round 1: Pichel advancing, Silva circling. Low kick and right hand land for Pichel when Silva slips against the fence. Heavy right hands by Pichel inside after one from Silva. One minute in. Pichel steps in with a leg kick. To the outside this time. Jab connects, straight left. Two minutes in. Silva moving a lot but the counters aren’t there so far. Body kick from Silva. Two minutes to go.
Silva fires off a pair of head kicks, clips Pichel with an overhand right. Inside low kick from Pichel. Slick body kick from Silva with a minute to go. Another glancing head kck. Silva slips on a head kick and Pichel shoots. Close round but Silva was pretty inactive in the first few minutes. 10-9 Pichel.
Round 2: Silva goes back to the head kick. Pichel with a hard leg kick. Nice elbow behind a jab and he shoots. Silva fights it off and lands a short elbow a minute in. Pichel with a two-piece. Good trade in the center. They exchange body kicks. Two minutes in. Silva tries a wheel kick. Both whiff in the center. Hard lead right by Silva. Silva’s the one advancing now, eats a flurry from Pichel for it. Two minutes to go.
Leg kick from Silva. Leg kick and jab by Pichel in return. One minute to go. Low kick from Pichel, knee inside. 1-2 from Silva in return. Silva fires haymakers, eats a jab. Pichel finds the mark with an uppercut and cracks Pichel with what looks like his hardest leg kick yet. 10-9 Pichel.
Round 3: Pichel tries a wild head kick, slips, doesn’t get punished. Inside leg kick. Silva pressures him to the fence, eats a right hand. He’s still advancing, though, and lands a body kick. Pichel catches the next one for a takedown a minute in. Silva immediately stands and separates. Right cross. Silva backs him up, lands some hard right hands. Pichel counters a body kick with a right hand downstairs. Pichel with a right hand inside two minutes in. Uppercut by Pichel, Silva lands one in return after shrugging off a knee. They’re both throwing hard. Leg kick from Pichel. Pichel lands a body shot and some heavy punches as Pichel picks at his lead leg. Two minutes to go.
Pichel basically staying with his back on the fence, looking for counter uppercuts. Body kick lands for him. Silva to the body. 1-2 from Silva with a minute to go. Left hook in return. Right to the body. Silva cracks his jaw with right hands, scrambles out of a takedown.Pichel blasts him with a knee on the break, slips, keeps driving. Knees from Silva in return. 170 lbs.: Niko Price vs. George Sullivan
Round 1: Sullivan on the front foot early. Low kick by Price. Sullivan unable to reach him so far. One minute in. Looking to work his way in with the jab. Body kick from Price answered in kind. Sullivan pops the leg as well, then lands a 1-2-1-2. Two minutes. Price shoots in on the cage, can’t keep him down. Now he hits a trip into side control. Sullivan regains half guard, now full guard. Two minutes to go.
Sullivan uses the fence to stand, eats a knee to the body and looks for a kimura grip. Good knee off an underhook. He looks for a trip of his own and reverses position with a minute to go. Price counters the takedown and sets up in guard. Slam doesn’t appear to do much. Sullivan hits a sweep and now it’s Price trying to counter a takedown with a kimura. Hard knee and a right at the bell by Price. 10-9 Price.
Round 2: Sullivan looking winded. He’s still advancing and throwing, though. Good right hand met by one from Price. Price with a hard knee and right hand, then a knee to the body that has Sullivan shooting a minute in. Sullivan gets the trip into guard. Price briefly looks for a triangle as Sullivan chips away. Two minutes in. Solid right hand. Price throwing his legs up, not really getting close as the elbows and punches continue. Two minutes to go.
Price sporting a cut over his right eye. Price finally scrambles up and takes Sullivan down in return, but has to fight off a kimura. Price counters by taking his back with a minute to go. One hook in, but Sullivan leaves his neck open trying to stand and Price locks up the RNC.

Round 1: Sandhagen on the front foot as they trade. Arnett hauls him to the fence. They separate and Sandhagen whacks the lead leg. One minute in. Body shot and low kick and head kick. They trade inside and Sandhagen tears up the body, mixing in a knee to the head. Corkscrew uppercut. Arnett pursues, whacks him with jabs, backed off by a knee. Two minutes in. More stiff jabs by Arnett. Sandhagen shoots from far out, completes it and goes to work from half guard. Elbows from Sandhagen. Two minutes to go.
Sandhagen stands over him, lands punches before Arnett pops up. Good 1-2 by Arnett. Sandhagen tries to be cheeky with his hands down, eats a combination for it. One minute to go. Sandhagen goes back to the lead leg, lands a pair of lefts downstairs. Arnett puts him on the fence and lands knees. 10-9 Sandhagen.
Round 2: Sandhagen opens with a leg kick. Straight left. Arnett backs him off with a right cross. Sandhagen feints into a left hook, then bangs the body and attacks the lead leg again. One minute in. ARnett puts him back on the cage, only for Sandhagen to reverse position and crack him with an elbow. Arnett with another right hand but he’s being badly outlanded. Arnett lands an uppercut inside, takes Sandhagen to the cage when he ties up. He drags Sandhagen down and puts in a hook. He’s too high and winds up in guard two minutes in. Elbows from Sandhagen, attacking from half guard again. Sandhagen tries to jump straight to mount, forced to scramble up, and lands a spinning back elbow. Two minutes to go.
Arnett pumping jabs and right hands. Sandhagen lands a liver shot that folds Arnett, slamming home knees until another left to the body sends Arnett to the fetal position.
