Typically, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White will enter the Octagon and wrap the championship belt around the winner of a title fight. So it was a curious sight to see Stipe Miocic snatch the strap from White’s hands and present it to his coach.
“He respects me and I respect him, end of story,” Miocic said about his coach at the UFC 220 post-fight press conference (watch it), which came on the heels of his unanimous decision win over Francis Ngannou last weekend in Boston. But does White respect Miocic?
“I don’t know and I don’t really care,” he said.
Miocic had somewhat of a rough 2017. After defending his 265-pound title against Junior dos Santos, the full-time firefighter struggled to come to terms with UFC on the extension of his contract.
Then he was booked against Ngannou, who received a majority of the promotion’s pre-fight hype.
No telling what lies ahead for Miocic in 2018, but I think it’s safe to same White won't be invited to the post-fight celebration back in Cleveland.
