While Boston fight fans are gearing up for UFC 220: Miocic vs. Ngannou tomorrow night (Sat., Jan. 20, 2018) from inside TD Garden, the city also played host to UFC’s 25th Anniversary press conference earlier today (full replay here).
It was the first time interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson and undefeated top contender Khabib Nurmagomedov met face-to-face after UFC president Dana White announced their title fight for UFC 223 on April 7 earlier this week. Even though Ferguson and “Eagle” have been scheduled to fight before, this one feels even more real considering “El Cucuy” now has a title and Khabib is fresh off his monstrous win over Edson Barboza at UFC 219.
Watch Ferguson and Khabib’s intense staredown above.
Also in attendance was UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway, who will try to defend his title for the second-straight time when he takes on Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on Mar. 3. Holloway and Edgar were scheduled to fight at UFC 218, but an injury forced “The Answer” to withdraw and he was replaced by Jose Aldo, who “Blessed” defeated via third-round TKO.
