Before Stipe Miocic puts his belt on the line for the third time against Francis Ngannou at UFC 220 this weekend (Sat., Jan. 20, 2018) at TD Garden in Boston, Mass., take a look back at the champ’s second title defense.
Back in May of 2017, Miocic found himself staring down former champion Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC 211 in Dallas, Texas. The two had tangoed before, with “JDS” scoring a unanimous decision win who many felt should have gone Stipe’s way.
This time around, Miocic made sure not to let the judges play any part in the outcome, bulldozing his way past “Cigano” with an impressive first-round knockout victory (his fourth in a row). Now, Stipe will look to become the first man to ever defend UFC’s 265-pound strap three times when he faces off against one of the hardest-hitting big men to ever grace the Octagon.
