Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is all set to pull the trigger on the UFC 220 pay-per-view (PPV) event, locked and loaded for TONIGHT (Sat., Jan. 20, 2018) inside TD Garden Arena in Boston, Mass., featuring “Prelims” on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Who is the baddest man on the planet?
UFC 220 will be headlined by the heavyweight title fight pitting reigning division kingpin Stipe Miocic opposite terrifying division power puncher Francis Ngannou. Elsewhere on the card, Daniel Cormier will defend his light heavyweight strap against up-and-coming bruiser Volkan Oezdemir.

265 lbs.: UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou
Round 1: Miocic opens with a low kick, backs away from a head kick and completes a single-leg. Ngannou pops right back up on the cage. He continues to drive and Ngannou throws bombs on the break. Ngannou clips him with a winging overhand, misses with a three-hit combo. 1-2 and a winging right from the challenger, who lands a clean uppercut. Miocic lands a heavy combination, eats a 1-2. Miocic puts him on the fence, eats knees two minutes in. They separate. Miocic slips some big punches and balsts Ngannou with a cross. BIG counter right knocks Ngannou back and he hits a blast double into side control. Two minutes to go.
Stipe steps up for a crucifix, can’t quite get it. Heavy ground-and-pound by the champ, who threatens a guillotine on the way up. One minute to go. Stipe with a clean 1-2. Ngannou Heavy exchange, great right hook from Ngannou, takedown by Miocic. 10-9 Miocic.
Round 2: Ngannou with a swatting right hand early. Snap kick from the champ. One minute in. Ngannou whiffs on a heavy right hand. Ngannou stuffs a takedown, tries to catch Miocic as he retreats. Two minutes in. Ugly kick by Miocic nearly countered. Leg kick from the champ, 1-2 lands clean. Ngannou lands an uppercut, gets taken down. Ground-and-pound from Miocic, leaning on Ngannou as ”The Predator” tries to stand. Two minutes to go.
Knee to the body from Miocic, still just keeping his weight on Ngannou. One minute to go. Miocic forcing him to carry his weight, chipping away with punches. He threatens an RNC at the bell. 10-9 Miocic.
Round 3: Miocic shoots early, stuffed despite quite a bit of drive. Pressing Ngannou against the cage. Ngannou tries to shove him away and slips. Moicic staying heavy on him once again. Ngannou forces his way back to his feet. Back to the center. NGannou plodding in southpaw, eats a right. 1-2 rocks Miocic! The champ hits a nice takedown in return and lands on top in half guard. Two minutes to go.
Miocic chiseling away with right hands and short elbows. Blows continuing to pile up with a minute to go. Ref calling for action as Miocic patiently cracks him. 10-9 Miocic.
Round 4: Early takedown from Miocic into side control. Miocic stands as Ngannou looks for a leg, but Ngannou is too exhausted to get back up in time. Miocic whacking away while Ngannou is on his knees. ngannou trying to stand, eating short knees and punches. Two minutes to go.
Ngannou has nothing left. This does not need to keep going. More ground-and-pound. 10-8 Miocic.
Round 5: Ngannou can’t even keep his hands up. Miocic shoots, stuffed. Pressing him against the cage, looks for an inside trip. One minute in. Good knee by Miocic. Two minutes in. Ref separates them. Ngannou shows a bit of life, picked off by a left hand. Two minutes to go.
Miocic runs in with a left hand. Leg kick from Miocic. One minute to go. Ngannou lumbering forward, whiffs on a right hand. He jumps in with a knee, hauled to the fence. 10-9 Miocic.
Final result: Miocic def. Ngannou by unanimous decision
205 lbs.: UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier vs. Volkan Oezdemir
Round 1: Oezdemir comes out aggressively as expected and they trade inside. They tie up, hard left by Oezdemir. Oezdemir with a left uppercut on the fence. One minute in. Cormier seems to be having issues getting inside. Now he lands, changes levels without success. Cuffing right by Oezdemir. They trade hard shots in the clinch. Big overhand right by DC two minutes in. Leg kick lands for him. Two minutes to go.
Oezdemir with a glancing left hook. DC with his hands extended, parrying punches. Low kick from Oezdemir. Heavy right lands for DC, then another. 2-3 has Oezdemir on the retreat. Oezdemir cracks him on the inside. One minute to go. Overhand right by Oezdemir. His right eye looks bad. DC with hard rights inside, eats a left in return and catches a kick for a takedown attempt. He completes it, eats a right hand, chips away from the back and locks up the RNC. Oezdemir saved by the bell. 10-9 Cormier.
Round 2: Stiff jabs fro mDC, who walks through a right hand to hit another takedown directly into mount. Oezdemir regains half guard, side control a minute in. Cormier pins an arm and goes to work with punches. He continues to chip away, his shin preventing Oezdemir’s arm from protecting his face, until the ref steps in.
Final result: Cormier def. Oezdemir by TKO (punches)
145 lbs.: Shane Burgos vs. Calvin Kattar
Round 1: Burgos firing his jab. He tries a cross counter. Kattar finding the mark with his jab. One minute in. Low kick by Kattar, who digs to the body. Nasty counter right connects. Burgos unphased so far, bangs to the body. Teep. Kattar keeping him at bay with the jab, eats a cross counter two minutes in. BIG right cross by Kattar, Burgos tears into his body in response. Burgos rips another left downstairs, absorbs an uppercut. Two minutes to go.
Kattar doing a good job of keeping Burgos at the end of his punches. Good combo by Burgos. Leg kick. One minute to go. Right cross by Kattar. Burgos again rips to the body. Kattar popping him with the jab and sneaks in a body hook behind it. Hard right hand and front kick land for Kattar, who takes a leg kick in return. 10-9 Kattar.
Round 2: Kattar continues to find the mark with straight punches as Burgos attacks his leg. One minute in. Stiff jabs from Kattar. Hard right cross. Inside low kick. Burgos to the body and Kattar shoots, pressing Burgos on the cage before separating with an elbow. Burgos with a cross counter. Hard body shots from Burgos. Lead right. Again. Combination upstairs, his best sequence of the fight. Again he drills Kattar with a left hook. Two minutes to go.
Kattar with a body shot. More body shots and tight right hands. Kattar with a front kick. Jabs still landing for Kattar. One minute to go. Burgos lands a leg kick, eats an uppercut. Leg kick exchange. Burgos digs another body shot and inside low kick. 10-9 Burgos on late work.
Round 3: Back to exchanging in the center. Kattar dings Burgos with a 1-2, then crushes him with an uppercut. Burgos staggers back and gets flattened by another uppercut, after which Kattar pounds him out. Burgos tries to protest, but is unsteady on his feet. Good stoppage.
Final result: Kattar def. Burgos by TKO (punches)
205 lbs.: Francimar Barroso vs. Gian Villante
Round 1: Villante moving forward, throwing rights. He counters a Barroso leg kick with a right hand. Hard uppercut by Barroso. Villante lands an uppercut and left hook, then further punches. Two minutes in. Barroso not offering that much. Front kick attempt, good jab. Two minutes to go.
Barroso circling away from trouble. Leg kick lands. He tries to spin, eats a leg kick. Villante tries to open up on the fence, eats a leg kick. Counter right by Barroso. They trade low kicks. Barroso leg kick countered by a right hand. They exchange on the fence. 10-9 Villante?
Round 2: Villante continues to advance, shrugging off leg kicks until he can draw Barroso into a slugfest. Big counter left by Barroso, who takes one to the nards. Back to the pressure from Villante, who jacks up Barroso’s right leg. Body kick by Barroso. Body kick again as Villante plods onward. Sneaky uppercut. Two minutes to go.
They exchange on the fence. Straight left from Barroso. Leg kick trips Villante up, he answers with body shots. Barroso with a kick and knee to the body with a minute to go, eats a right hand. Villante to the body. 10-9 Villante.
Round 3: Hard 1-2 from Villante to open the round. Barroso fires a leg kick, blocks a combo. Body kick by Barroso. Again, then a 2-3. One minute in. They trade left hooks and Barroso gets the worst of it. Crowd is unimpressed. Barroso whiffs on an uppercut, lands a right two minutes in. Good leg kick and body kick land for him. Two minutes to go.
Another right by Barroso, denied on a knee tap attempt. Good cross by Villante. One minute to go. Barroso leg kick, overhand right exchange. That stunk. 10-9 Villante.
Final result: Villante def. Barroso by split decision
135 lbs.: Thomas Almeida vs. Rob Font
Round 1: Font advancing behind his jab. Almeida with a cross counter. Font shoots on the fence, lands a heavy right inside and they trade. Almeida low kick. They trade rights as Font ties up again a minute in. Heavy counters from Almeida. Font whiffs on an uppercut, eats body shots. Two minutes in. Blocked head kick from Almeida. They’re both swinging big. 2-3 from Almeida, cross counter lands. Two minutes to go.
Leg kick from Almeida. Good elbow by Font inside. Left hook by Almeida, then a faked spn to right hand. Almeida rips to the body. Almeida marching forwards with a minute to go. Font pumping his jab, eats an overhand right and tries a takedown. 10-9 Almeida.
Round 2: Almeida firing inside leg kicks as Font jabs. Good 1-2 from Font draws a nod. A bigger right hand catches Almeida leaning and he goes down like his strings have been cut. Font latches onto him and drags him to the mat, but can’t keep him there. One minute in. Elbow from Font after eating a jab. Font throwing head on the fence, lands a big right hand. They separate. Almeida looks for the body two minutes in, eats another right hand. Font catches him with a head kick and drums him with right hands until Herb Dean steps in.
Final result: Font def. Almeida by TKO (head kick and punches)
145 lbs.: Kyle Bochniak vs. Brandon Davis
Round 1: Bochniak circling, Davis advancing. Low kick from Davis a minute in. Combination from Bochniak, who slides out of reach of the counters. Body shot by Bochniak. Good exchange, Bochniak lands a heavy left. Two minutes in. Low kicks from Davis, left hook from Bochniak. Bochniak catches a front kick and shoots. He runs the pipe and completes a single-leg against the fence. Two minutes to go.
Davis pops back up, fights off an outside trip. Again Bochniak spins Davis to the mat, again he pops up. One minute to go. Single-leg, then a body lock. One hook in on the cage, tries a slam. 10-9 Bochniak.
Round 2: Bochniak still circling as Davis marches forward. Straight right by Bochniak. One minute in. They trade rights, heavy shots from Bochniak in the clinch. Two minutes in. 1-2 from Davis. Hard knee, but Bochniak shoots through it. and lands one of his own. Bochniak with a right hand on the break. Good trade with two minutes to go.
Davis just struggling to land consistent offense. Bochnicak ducks a spinning back fist for a takedown. They separate. One minute to go. Good rights by Bochnicak. They trade near the fence, then again on the inside. 10-9 Bochniak.
Round 3: Davis still can’t catch him. Left hook by Bochniak, who eats a foot to the face. Good flurry from Bochniak, who tries a takedown. One minute in. Bochniak shoots on the fence and Davis briefly threatens a Kimura. Elbow from Davis as he defends. Two minutes in. Hip toss by Davis, can’t keep him down and eats a right. Right hand lands in return. Right hand exchange. Bochniak answers a leg kick with a flurry. Two minutes to go.
Davis hits a nice reactive takedown and a knee on the way up. Counter right by Davis. Bochniak shoots, right hand inside. One minute to go. Bochniak shoots, eats some elbows. Davis denies it with a Kimura attempt and waves him on. They trade punches until the bell. 10-9 Davis.
Final result: Bochniak def. Davis by unanimous decision
170 lbs.: Abdul Razak Alhassan vs. Sabah Homasi
Round 1: Low kick from Alhassan. Homasi with a body kick, slings haymakers. Another low kick by Alhassan. Hard counter knee by Homasi a minute in. They sling heat in the clinch and smile at each other. Alhassan flurries, chasing him across the cage. They trade and Homasi shoots two minutes in. Alhassan denies it, but gets rattled by an overhand right. Alhassan lands in return, stalks after him. Homasi with a takedown, completes this one. Two minutes to go.
The ref stands them up and they go back to swinging. Heavy 1-2 knocks Homasi back, then a monstrous uppercut splits his guard for a one-punch finish.
Final result: Alhassan def. Homasi by KO (punch)
125 lbs.: Dustin Ortiz vs. Alexandre Pantoja
Round 1: Pantoja comes out swinging. Ortiz wraps up the body lock and wrangles him to the mat. Pantoja scrambles to the back, eats elbows as Ortiz gets free of the hooks. Knees to the shoulder from Pantoja, who re-inserts the hook. One minute in. Both hooks in. Pantoja still looking for the choke, has a full body triangle, Two minutes in. Ortiz trying to spin into guard without success. Two minutes to go.
Pantoja still fighting for the choke. He cranks on Ortiz’s neck, can’t dispatch him. Ortiz spins into top position and slams a knee under Pantoja’s armpit . He ends the ground dropping punches. 10-9 Pantoja; would have been a 10-8 had he done more damage from the back.
Round 2: They trade punches until Ortiz looks for a takedown. Low kick from Pantoja. Ortiz finds the mark with a winging right. Good punches inside. He looks fresher than Pantoja. Ortiz looks for a low single, denied. Pantoja with a counter right a minute in. 1-2 from Ortiz, jabs. Lead right. Ortiz drags Pantoja to a knee two minutes in. Ortiz still driving, unable to totally complete the takedown but staying heavy. Two minutes to go.
Ortiz drags him down, Pantoja pops up. Body lock for Ortiz, Pantoja gets over-unders and drives. They separate. They trade heavy right hands. One minute to go Ortiz looks for a takedown, Pantoja gets a cradle. Ortiz continues to drive. 10-9 Ortiz.
Round 3: Ortiz shoots, avoids a back take and an armbar but gets swept. Ortiz scoots to the fence, Pantoja attached to his waist. Body punches from Ortiz, ref wants more from Pantoja. Lovely back take from Pantoja in response. Ortiz works his way to his feet, gets spun to the mat and Pantoja re-takes the back. Full body triangle. Ortiz struggling to get out, slipping out the back door with two mintues to go.
Guard for Dustin Ortiz. Punches and elbows from Ortiz and Pantoja scrambles up. Ortiz pressing forward, winging bombs. Knees inside and he looks for a single-leg. Knees to the body and thigh from Ortiz. He continues chiseling away until the bell. 10-9 Ortiz, just because Pantoja didn’t do enough from dominant positions.
Final result: Ortiz def. Pantoja by unanimous decision
145 lbs.: Julio Arce vs. Dan Ige
Round 1: Ige catches a knee to the fece, drives through for a takedown. Arce pops up, held against the cage. They separate after Ige whiffs on an elbow. Front kick by Arce. Leg kick. Arce firing combinations, gets taken down. Ige digs in a knee before they split two minutes in. Arce clinches up, gets reversed, separates. 1-2 lands clean for Arce. Solid jabs with two minutes to go.
Ige wades in, shoved away. Right hook buckles Ige, who tries to shoot. Arce stuffs it and bangs to the body. Ige in panic mode as Arce goes to work on the fence, does land a counter right with a minute to go. Jabs, straight left knock Ige back. Ige gets in deep, still can’t get him down. 10-9 Arce.
Round 2: Arce advancing, pumping the jab. His range management is the story of the fight. Ige again falls short with haymakers. Overhand right by Ige. Again on the counter, clinch. One minute in. 1-2 from Arce, teep. Straight left lands clean. Hard uppercut in the clinch. Ige knocks him back with a right cross. Two minutes in. Arce lands a teep and a 1-2. They trade heavy blows in the center. Big left uppercut by Arce, who stuffs another takedown. Two minutes to go. Arce lands a knee, avoids an elbow, lands a straight left.
Combination lands for Ige near the cage. Ige finds the mark with right hands, shoots in for a single-leg but eats punches along the way. One minute to go. Ige shoots again, stuffed again. 10-9 Arce.
Round 3: Ige with a low kick. arce picks him off with a jab and flurries. BIG left shovel hook. One minute in. Arce digs to the body. Straight left upstairs. Ige’s struggling to reach him. They trade knees inside and Arce stuffs another shot, landing some ground-and-pound before letting him up. Two minutes in. Ige with a desperate-looking shot, no luck. Low kicks. Arce with another heavy left. Combination lands with two minutes to go.
Combo from Arce, overhand right by Ige. They slug it out inside. Lovely angles by Arce. One minute to go. Arce again pops him with a left. BIG left hand draws a nod from Ige. They end the fight trading heat. 10-9 Arce.

145 lbs.: Matt Bessette vs. Enrique Barzola
Round 1: Bessetta moving forward. Leg kicks by Barzola. He winds up for a big swing and eats a counter right a minute in. Bessette with a head kick, just blocked. Barzola answers in kind. Heavy body kick by Bessette, left hook on the fence. Two minutes in. Bessette doing good work with his kicks. Barzola body kick. Bessette flurries and they trade near the fence. Bessette lands a head kick and uppercut with two minutes to go.
Barzola tries to tie up, cannot do so. He shoots and dumps Bessette away from the fence, setting up in guard. Bessette goes for a leg. Barzola stands over him with a minute to go, drops punches. Bessette scrambles to his feet, has to fight off another takedown. They exchange near the center. 10-9 Bessette.
Round 2: Barzola connects with a body kick, eats body shots from Bessette. Bessete trying to goad him on, blocks a flying knee. Leg kick exchange. Heavy calf kick knocks Bessette over a minute in and Barzola goes right back to it. Barzola catches a body kick, can’t use it, takes a glancing right. Double underhooks by Barzola, can’t use them. Two minutes in. Bessette winging hooks on the inside until Barzola hauls him into the air and dumps him in the center of the cage. Two minutes to go.
Bessete looking for a leg, gets drilled with punches for his trouble. He scrambles up and Barzola drives in once again, bringing him down briefly with a minute to go. Again Bessette rises, again Barzola shoots. One more slam before the bell. 10-9 Barzola.
Round 3: Bessette marching onwards. Barzola whacks the lead leg. Body kick from Bessette, head kick attempt soon after. Barzola with another low leg kick a minute in. He’s trying to tie up without success. Barzola working behind the jab, lands a combo. Bessette bangs the body and sneaks a right upstairs, then gets spun around by a leg kick. Two minutes in. Both fire hooks. Barzola connects with a left hook, still can’t clinch up. Bessette steps in with a knee. Two minutes to go.
Barzola fires a jab, lands a leg kick, changes levels. His movement looks labored. Still, he keeps Bessette on the fence and ultimately locks his hands for another slam. Bessette with mission control in the center, loses it. Barzola lands some ground-and-pound, eats an uppercut when Bessette scrambles up. They end things swinging. 10-9 Barzola.
Final result: Barzola def. Bessette by unanimous decision
155 lbs.: Islam Makhachev vs. Gleison Tibau
Round 1: Both men come out southpaw. Low kick from Tibau. Body kick from Makhachev in return. Suddenly, Makhachev counters a leg kick with a left hand right on the button. Tibau teeters to the mat, the victim of a one-punch knockout.
Final result: Makhachev def. Tibau by KO (punch)
