MMA: UFC 207-Borg vs Smolka Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Ray Borg had an incredible opportunity to fight pound-for-pound standout Demetrious Johnson for the undisputed UFC flyweight title tomorrow night (Sat., Sept. 9, 2017) at UFC 215 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, but saw his chance for greatness slip away when an illness forced him out of the main event bout.

With Johnson vs. Borg off the board, UFC 215 will roll on with a main event pitting UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes against top contender Valentina Shevchenko. Until now, Borg has not released an official statement regarding the matter.

Here is what “The Tazmexican Devil” had to say in a statement made to MMA Weekly:

“First, I want to say I’m sorry to the fans and to Demetrious Johnson for being unable to fight. I want to say thank you to Dr. Davidson, the UFC and to Jeff Novitsky for looking out for my health and best interests.

“I also want to add that I am no longer working with Perfecting Athletes and Michelle Ingels, who was not authorized to speak on my behalf.”

While the 24-year-old Borg didn’t offer an exact explanation of the illness that knocked him out of his UFC 215 title fight opposite “Mighty Mouse,” fight fans are to assume it was a legitimate ailment considering UFC doctors deemed the flyweight contender unable to fight.

Even in a depleted 125-pound division Borg’s immediate future is uncertain at this time. He’s a legit contender, but his inability to show up this weekend in Edmonton may end up costing him his first UFC title shot. will deliver LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the entire UFC 215 fight card, starting with the Fight Pass "Prelims" matches online, which are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET, then the remaining undercard balance on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET, before the PPV main card start time at 10 p.m. ET.
