Conor McGregor open to Georges St-Pierre money fight, thinks GSP gets ‘ass whooped’ at UFC 217

It’s no secret that UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is game to fight anyone as long as the price makes sense. The Irishman’s outlook didn’t change earlier today (Fri., Sept. 29, 2017) during an exclusive Q&A from inside the SEC Armadillo auditorium in Glasgow, Scotland.

In fact, McGregor laid out multiple options for his inevitable UFC return after losing to boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. this past August. Not only did “Notorious” entertain a Nate Diaz trilogy fight, as well as taking on the winner of Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee, but the 29-year-old superstar opened up the door for a potential money fight with former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

“It’s another money fight, even though he’s been retired,” said McGregor (transcription courtesy of MMA Fighting’s Peter Carroll). “I don’t know, I think he’s going to get his ass whooped by Bisping. To be honest I think it’s a mistake for him to step in at that weight after so long out.”

St-Pierre, 36, will be returning from a four-year hiatus to challenge current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping at UFC 217 on Nov. 4 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. It will be GSP’s first appearance at 185 pounds.

While fight fans have long wondered what would happen in a meeting between McGregor and St-Pierre, many things would have to play out for that dream fight to become a reality. Not only would GSP have to defeat Bisping in order to preserve his marketability, but the promotion would have to be okay with McGregor skipping out on yet another title defense (this time at lightweight) to pack on muscle and move up in weight to fight the Canadian superstar.

That said, McGregor vs. St-Pierre would be absolutely ginormous. So if there ever comes a time when GSP returns to welterweight and McGregor is in the market for a bout outside of 155 pounds, a matchup between the two would have to be made.

Until then, GSP will be left to handle Bisping in NYC while “Notorious” gears up for his first ever UFC title defense.
