WWE star wants fans to lower their expectations for Ronda Rousey the wrestler

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey had the chops to capture the promotion’s 135-pound title in relatively short order, thanks to a lifetime of judo training that was also responsible for netting her a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Don’t expect that sort of hostile takeover in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

That’s because professional wrestling is an entirely different industry, sort of like full-contact theater, which akin to combat sports, demands years to perfect but also requires a performer to act in scripted situations, as well as improv.

Which is why headlining “Diva” Charlotte Flair wants fans to lower their expectations if and when Rousey makes her transition to WWE, alongside fellow “Horsewomen” Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir.

Flair elaborates to NY Post:

“I am a little biased in terms of what it takes to be a WWE superstar and performer for the company. I would look at this as a term ‘a gimmick match,’ where I wouldn’t have an expectation, say me versus Nattie [Natalya] at Hell in a Cell. I wouldn’t expect it to be a match like that. They don’t have the training that we have. It’s just different. I think the only challenge would be people might forget that WWE is a sports entertainment company. I think it would be exciting … but I don’t know if that would even be a challenge. It may even make it more exciting.”

A sample of Rousey’s wrestling right here.

Rousey hasn’t been seen since her technical knockout loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 back in December. During that hiatus, “Rowdy” got married (pics) and started to talk turkey with the gang at WWE regarding a future inside the squared circle.

How much of that is part of her “major news” remains to be seen.
