Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back on television TONIGHT (Fri., Sept. 22, 2017) with the UFC Fight Night 117 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FXX (not FOX Sports 1), which features a light heavyweight main event between Ovince Saint Preux and Yushin Okami, who are battling for a spot in the 205-pound title chase.

The action takes place inside Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

In the UFC Fight Night 117 co-main event, strawweight bruiser Jessica Andrade collides with fellow division title contender Claudia Gadelha, while kickboxing legend Gokhan Saki makes his Octagon debut against Henrique da Silva.

205 lbs.: Ovince Saint Preux vs. Yushin Okami

Round 1: Okami immediately shoots and pulls half guard. He’s looking for a weep, but Saint Preux is looking for a guillotine. He releases it. One minute in. Okami makes the mistake of putting his arm over Saint Preux’s head and Saint Preux sleeps him with a Von Flue choke.

Final result: Saint Preux def. Okami by technical submission (Von Flue choke)


115 lbs.: Jessica Andrade vs. Claudia Gadelha

Round 1: Right hand lands for Gadelha. Hard counter left hook. Good shots inside. Counter right clips Andrade. One minute in. Lovely combos by Gadelha. Another 1-2 and an elbow. More and more punches landing clean. Counter right, elbow. Andrade has yet to land a major strike. Now some good rights from Andrade, but Gadelha batters her with right hands in the clinch. Gadelha shoots, stuffed but lands power shots on the break two minutes in. Andrade bleeding from the forehead. Andrade looks for the body as Gadelha picks her off. Two minutes to go.

Monstrous slam from Andrade, but Gadelha clamps down on a guillotine. Andrade slips out and takes top position. Andrade looking for ground-and-pound. Half guard with a minute to go. Solid left hands from Bate Estaca. Andrade mixing up punches to the head and body. 10-9 Gadelha still.

Round 2: 1-2 from Gadelha lands clean and they trade punches until Gadelha hits a takedown. Andrade scrambles up and looks for a single-leg, which Gadelha stuffs with a cradle. One minute in. Andrade looking for another single-leg, can’t get it and they separate. Well-timed shot form Gadelha, but Andrade stuffs it and takes half guard. Good elbows and punches. Andrade with a heavy knee and right hand on the break two minutes in. Left hook by Andrade. Andrade starting to do damage, but the counters are still coming. Good knee by Gadelha, but Andrade blasts her with punches. Two minutes to go.

Andrade’s pressure is working. Leg kicks, power punches. She stuffs a tired takedown attempt. Andrade just battering her at this point, easily stops another takedown. Chiseling away with punches as Gadelha works her way back to her feet. One minute to go. Nasty right hand by Gadelha met by a left hook and leg kick. 2-3 from Gadelha but Andrade won’t stop. Body shots in the clinch. Gadelha latches onto another guillotine and squeezes for her life. No dice. 10-8 Andrade.

Round 3: Andrade goes right back to work with head shots. 3-2 lands. Gadelha shoots, stuffed and Andrade puts her on the fence. Knee to the body from Andrade. Another huge slam puts her on top in half guard a minute in. She continues to mix up body and head shots well. These are quality punches. Two minutes in. Gadelha regains guard but the punches continue to rain down. Andrade battering her from guard. Two minutes to go.

Gadelha’s out of steam and the strikes keep coming. Andrade passes to side control and continues to smash away. Gadelha gets to her knees and Andrade punches the body from the front headlock. One minute to go. Gadelha makes it to her feet and threatens another guillotine. Andrade gets a bit of distance and lands more punches. One more slam to put a stamp on it. 10-8 Andrade.

Final result: Andrade def. Gadelha by unanimous decision


155 lbs.: Takanori Gomi vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Round 1: Low kick from Kim. Body shot from Gomi. Kim targeting the body with kicks a minute in. Straight right drops Gomi! Kim follows him down with hammerfists and the ref steps in early.

Final result: Kim def. Gomi by TKO (punches)


205 lbs.: Henrique da Silva vs. Gokhan Saki

Round 1: Right hand, left hook, head kick from Saki. Saki picking da Silva off coming in. Straight left drops da Silva, Saki lets him up. da Silva shoots. One minute in. Saki defends and separates. Leg kick from Saki, then a counter left hook. Body shot. Uppercut. Saki’s chewing him up on the feet. Front kick, 2-3. da Silva backs off as though he has an eye problem and Saki drops him with a left hook. Saki teeing off. da Silva does not look confident. da Silva ties up with two minutes to go.

Saki separates, stops another takedown with an underhook and trips him to the mat. Good knees from da Silva after he rises. Saki head kick goes high. He looks a little tired honestly. Counter left. One minute to go. Right hand from Saki, da Silva tries to spin. Saki’s definitely winded. Left hook from Saki, knees from da Silva. Elbow buckles Saki! Suddenly, just as da Silva appears to have him on the ropes, Saki clobbers him with a left hook that fells da Silva like a tree. One-punch knockout for Gokhan Saki in his UFC debut.

Final result: Saki def. da Silva by KO (punch)


145 lbs.: Rolando Dy vs. Teruto Ishihara

Round 1: Ishihara on the front foot early. Simultaneous kicks. Low kick from Ishihara, then a 1-2 that drops Dy. Ishihara pouring on the hurt. Nice ground-and-pound. One minute in. Elbow lands for Ishihara. Dy gets to his rear and Ishihara looks for a guillotine. Dy stands, Ishihara takes him down with a single-leg and lands more left hands. Big punches. Elbows. Two minutes in. Ishihara chewing him up from guard. More punches piling up. Ishihara passes to half guard with two minutes to go.

Ishihara briefly pins Dy’s arm down and lands more lefts. Back to guard, more nasty punches and elbows. 10-8 Ishihara.

Round 2: Right hand from Dy early on. Knee lands on the cup. Another left from Ishihara, who eats a head kick Ishihara shoots, can’t get it. One minute in. 2-3 from Dy. Heavy counter 2-3. Superman punch from Ishihara, who eats a knee to the body. Left hook from Dy. Two minutes in. Body kick lands. Ishihara having trouble finding the mark with his left, does so as I type that. Body kick by Ishihara answered in kind. Counter right from Dy. Two minutes to go.

Big counter left by Ishihara and they trade. Ishihara ties up on the cage, they separate. Another sharp counter left by Ishihara, who avoids a head kick. One minute to go. They trade low kicks. Counter right from Dy. Body kick. Nasty left hook right to the chin. Body kick connects. 10-9 Dy.

Round 3: They trade and Dy cracks Ishihara with a knee as he ducks in for a takedown attempt. Ishihara can’t keep him on the fence. Counter right from Dy, then another groin shot. Another left hook by Dy after the restart. They’re going for it. Leg kick and head kick from Ishihara, then hard rights inside from Dy. Head kick cracks Ishihara two minutes in. Yet ANOTHER low blow and Ishihara is writhing in agony. Ref takes a point, much to Dy’s displeasure. Ishihara charges in for a takedown and completes it with just over two minutes to go. Dy already complaining to the ref.

Dy kicks him off and scrambles up. Good knee from Ishihara inside, Dy stuffs another takedown. One minute to go. Leg kick by Ishihara. Lead right lands for Dy. Body kick. Counter right after eating a body kick from Ishihara. Head kick. Counter left lands for Ishihara. 9-9 with the point deduction.

Final result: Ishihara def. Dy by unanimous decision


125 lbs.: Jussier Formiga vs. Ulka Sasaki

Round 1: Sasaki firing straights from range. Counter right hook. Overhand right lands for Formiga. Body kick and body knee from Sasaki a minute in. Body kick. Another and a knee inside. Formiga struggling to get inside, lands a right hand after eating a knee. Two minutes in. Good right to the body from the Brazilian. Body kick from Sasaki, right hand by Formiga. Big 1-2 connects. Sasaki lands a check hook. Formiga shoots, completes the takedown and moves to side control. Two minutes to go.

Sasaki regains guard, surrenders half guard. Formiga takes the back when Sasaki tries to scramble and immediately locks up the body triangle. One minute to go. Formiga gets his forearm under the chin and Sasaki desperately handfights before ultimately tapping.

Final result: Formiga def. Sasaki by submission (rear naked choke)


170 lbs.: Alex Morono vs. Keita Nakamura

Round 1: Morono comes charging out of the gate. Left hook lands for him. One minute in. Right hand connects. Another swatting right. Two minutes in. Body shot. Not much from Nakamura so far. Body kick lands for him and now Morono’s retreating. Two minutes to go.

Morono back on the advance. Body kick connects with a minute to go. Nakamura answers in kind. Morono hurls a flurry. 10-9 Morono on activity.

Round 2: Leg kick from Morono. Nakamura fires another body kick. Superman punch whiffs a minute in. Straight left connects. Body kick. Two minutes in. Head kick from Nakamura, leg kick from Morono. Morono lands a stiff jab with two minutes to go.

Nakamura body kick, flurry by Morono. Morono whiffs on an overhand, eats a straight left. Another. One minute to go. Straight left to the body. Morono teep. More body kicks by Nakamura. 10-9 Nakamura.

Round 3: Yet another body kck from Nakmura, then a straight left. Nakamura shoots, moves right to side control. One minute in. Morono scrambles back to his feet. Lead left lands for Nakamura again two minutes in. Three-piece by Morono on the counter. Morono with a right hand inside when Nakamura tries to tie up and that’s split Nakamura open. That thing is pouring blood, though nowhere near the eye. Two minutes to go.

Nakamura scores another takedown and Morono tries a guillotine on the way down. No dice. He does manage to get right back to his feet but Nakamura is looking more aggressive. Body kick from K-Taro. He’s finding the mark with punches. One minute to go. Yet another straight left. Right hook from Nakamura, left hook from Morono. Morono flurrying before the bell. 10-9 Nakamura.

Final result: Nakamura def. Morono by split decision


115 lbs.: Chan-Mi Jeon vs. Syuri Kondo

Round 1: Right hand from Jeon. Again. Jab exchange. Inside low kick. Elbow lands for her a minute in. Kondo lands a pair of right hands, pressing forward. They exchange near the fence. Two minutes in. Right hand from Kondo. More exchanges, Jeon tries a head kick. Jeon trying to land elbows on the counter as Kondo fires right hands. Two minutes to go.

1-2 from Jeon met be a leg kick. Knee to the body lands. 1-2 from Kondo, who eats a right hand. One minute to go. 1-2s from Kondo piling up. They trade knees to the body, right hand from Kondo. Heavy right hand by Kondo. Body kick from Kondo. Close. 10-9 Jeon.

Round 2: Right hand from Kondo, teep. Counter elbow. They trade. Right hand lands for Jeon, who catches the next body kick. One minute in. Spinning back kick attempt. Good 1-2 lands for her, but Kondo rattles her with a right cross. Kondo pressing the advantage, firing right hands. Solid knee. 1-2 from Kondo, uppercut from Jeon. Two minutes in. Round 3: Touch-and-go in the first thirty seconds. Jab from Jeon as she eats a teep. Body kick lands. Jab exchange. Kondo right hand a minute in. They’re still going at it. Not as much pressure from Kondo. Body kick by Jeon. Right hand from Kondo, eats a 1-2. Heavy right hand lands for Kondo and they trade on the fence. Two minutes in. More jabs and straight rights from Kondo as Jeon tries to pick her off. More shots from both women. Good rights by Kondo. Jeon lands body kicks, eats a leg kick. Two minutes to go.

Jumping body kick from Jeon, who eats a right hand. Another spinning back fist misses for Kondo and Jeon catches another body kick. Jeon claims an eye poke. One minute to go. More 1-2 exchange. 170 lbs.: Shinsho Anzai vs. Luke Jumeau

Round 1: Anzai moving forward. Jumeau stiff-arms him away. Hard counter right from Jumeau. Anzai shoots from too far out, Jumeau casually avoids it. One minute in. Body kick from Anzai. Anzai charges in, lands a good knee on the fence. Anzai left hook falls short. He changes levels, denied. Two minutes in. Jumeau with a leg kick. 1-2 lands for him, but Anzai cracks him with a big left hook. They slug it out on the fence. Jumeau pressing him into the cage and they trade knees to the body until Anzai reverses position. Good elbow on the break from the hometown fighter with two minutes to go.

Anzai barrels in and Jumeau blasts him with a counter right. Back to the clinch. One minute to go. Jumeau right hand goes high, left hook and front kick do not. Another right cross by the Kiwi. Close round. 10-9 Jumeau.

Round 2: Anzai rushes in for another takedown, gets it but can’t keep him there. They trade big shots when they rise and Anzai finds another left hook. Straight right from Jumeau. Overhand right by Anzai, head kick whiffs and takes him off his feet. One minute in. Check hook from Jumeau. Body kick and right hand from Jumeau. Anzai lands right hands inside. Blast double from Anzai puts Jumeau on his back. Anzai looking for half guard two minutes in. He’s got it. Jemeau holding onto a front headlock. Two minutes to go.

Anzai staying heavy, not doing terribly much. One minute to go. Jumeau regains guard. Jumeau scrambles up and avoids a back take. He lands some solid punches before the bell. 10-9 Anzai.

Round 3: Anzai shoots immediately, stuffed. Anzai left hook, Jumeau uppercut. Anzai ducks a right hand for a takedown attempt, stymied by the fence. Jumeau reverses and lands a hard left hand in the clinch a minute in. Anzai circles off. Leg kick by Jumeau. Again. Anzai shoots, denied, tries to move to the rear waistlock. Two minutes in. He transitions to a single-leg, can’t get it and they separate. Right cross by Jumeau, who eats a flurry. Overhand right from Anzai and he puts Jumeau back on the cage. Heavy shots. Jumeau reverses. Two minutes to go.

Jumeau lands a knee to the body and stuffs the reactive takedown. Anzai with a right downstairs. Leg kick from Jumeau. Right hand from Anzai after he avoids a knee. Anzai takes him back to the cage. One minute to go. Jumeau reverses position, fires knees. Knees from both men. Sneaky uppercuts from Jumeau. 10-9 Anzai on that big mid-round flurry.

170 lbs.: Daichi Abe vs. Hyun Gyu Lim

Round 1: Abe opens with inside low kicks. Body kick. Lim lands a low kick. Counters from Abe. Lim fires a leg kick, counters come back. Both land right hands a minute in. Right cross by Lim, who eats a hard counter hook. 3-2 from Abe, who is getting the better of the boxing so far. Lim with a counter hook. Two minutes in. Lim lands a pair of huge overhand rights that Abe absorbs. Another right from Lim. Abe lands another counter left hook. Two minutes to go.

Lim leaning on the lead right while Abe attempts to pick him off. Abe does so with a 3-2. Abe with a shift left straight, backs Lim to the cage but lets him off with a minute to go. Inside low kick from Abe. Lim picked off with another hook, though Abe slips afterwards. Lim’s eyes are starting to swell shut. 10-9 Abe.

Round 2: Inside leg kick from Abe as Lim steps in. Again. Body kick lands for Abe, Lim answers. One minute in. Counter left again by Abe, who walks into a vicious eye poke. There’s some miscommunication with the doctor, but Abe continues after taking some time. 1-1-2 by Abe. Lim with a right cross. Abe still picking at that lead leg. Lim looking to do the same. Massive counter right by Lim two minutes in and Abe backs off. That did immediate damage to Abe’s face. Another right cross lands. Two minutes to go.

Inside low kicks from Abe. Going to the well quite a bit with those. One minute to go. Too many trips and Lim cracks him with another heavy counter right. Abe drops him with a right behind the ear right at the bell. 10-9 Lim.

Round 3: Abe still going after that lead leg. Another overhand right by Lim connects. One minute in. Inside low kicks from both. Glancing hook from Abe, more leg kicks. Lim pops him with the jab. Two minutes in. 1-2 by Lim. 1-2 again after taking some leg kicks. Leg kick by Lim in return. Two minutes to go.

Lead hook by Lim knocks Abe back. Check hook by Abe. One minute to go. Jab exchange. BIG RIGHT HAND DROPS LIM IN THE LAST THIRTY SECONDS. Lim scrambles up and clinches, eats a hard right hand. Abe hits a gorgeous Judo throw at the bell. 10-9 Abe.
