UFC Fight Night 116 injuries and medical suspensions

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Pittsburgh Rockhold vs Branch Don Wright-USA TODAY Sports

UFC Fight Night 116 injuries and medical suspensions for those athletes competing at the “Rockhold vs. Branch” mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1 last Saturday night (Sept. 16, 2017) from inside PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, were released on Monday by California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Leading the list of mandatory timeouts is headliner David Branch, who will spend the next 45 days on the bench after having his face busted open by Luke Rockhold (video). In addition, Alex Reyes was zapped for 60 days after his brutal knockout loss to Mike Perry (replay).

Zu Anyanwu was suspended indefinitely and must have his right eye cleared prior to returning.

The full list of UFC Fight Night 116 medical suspensions, courtesy of MMA Junkie, are as follows:

David Branch: Suspended 45 days for facial cuts
Alex Reyes: Suspended 60 days
Hector Lombard: Suspended 45 days
Gregor Gillespie: Suspended 30 days for facial cuts
Jason Gonzalez: Suspended 30 days for facial cuts
Sergio Moraes: Suspended 60 days
Zu Anyanwu: Suspended indefinitely. Must have right eye cleared before return
Anthony Hamilton: Suspended 30 days
Uriah Hall: Suspended 30 days for facial cuts
Krzysztof Jotko: Suspended 60 days
Jason Saggo: Suspended 60 days

The remaining fighters were suspended seven days for precautionary reasons.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
