Report: Demetrious Johnson vs Ray Borg rescheduled for UFC 216 on Oct. 7 in Las Vegas

I guess “Mighty Mouse” won’t be getting that UFC 215 paycheck after all.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced earlier today (Wed., Sept 13, 2107) that the Demetrious Johnson vs Ray Borg Flyweight title fight has been rescheduled to go down at UFC 216 on Oct. 7, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Combate was the first to report the news.

The bout was originally set to go down last weekend (Sat., Sept. 9, 2017) at UFC 215 but was scratched just a couple days before fight night after Borg fell ill. As a result, the women’s Bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko was bumped up to headlining act.

Borg issued this statement regarding his withdrawal, citing that UFC doctors were the ones who ultimately made the tough call.

The 125-pound title fight will be Johnson’s chance to break the all-time title defense record for the promotion with 11 in a row, as he is currently tied with Anderson Silva with an impressive 10 straight championship wins.

The addition of the bout adds a bit more depth to the pay-per-view (PPV) event, as it currently set to feature an interim Lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee. Also, Fabricio Werdum and Derrick Lewis are set to tango in Heavyweight action.
