Now that Conor McGregor has scratched his boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather off his bucket list, the current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion of the world has plenty of challenges to look forward to inside the Octagon.
One of the options for “Notorious” is a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz after the combatants split their first two encounters at 170 pounds. But, not everyone thinks that’s a good option, including former division kingpin Anthony Pettis, who says Diaz isn’t all he thinks he’s cracked up to be.
“Bro, Nate Diaz ain’t shit,” Pettis told Fight Hype. “Me and Nate have a lot of issues. I was the champ at UFC and WEC and Diaz was calling me out. He got lucky in his fight with Conor and got the win. But dude, Nate Diaz ain’t shit. He ain’t shit.”
“Showtime” and Diaz have a bad history, as the two men reportedly got into a heated confrontation at a UFC event in Mexico a couple of years back. Pettis has repeatedly called for a fight against the Stockton slugger, but the matchup has never come to fruition.
Diaz hasn’t competed since losing his rematch to McGregor over a year ago, and has vowed not to return to the cage until UFC shows him the money ... to the tune of $30 million.
A fight against Pettis -- who recently made a successful return to 155 pounds — is always an option, but something tells me it’s not the “big money” fight Nate is looking for at the moment.
