Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight “it” girl Paige VanZant may be taking advantage of the promotion’s decision to implement a women’s flyweight division by meeting Jessica Eye — a former bantamweight — on middle ground at 125 pounds.
That’s according to Flo Combat.
VanZant (7-3) jumped out to three straight wins after making her Octagon debut in late 2014; however, she’s since gone 2-2 and got tapped twice in submission losses to Rose Namajunas and Michelle Waterson.
Perhaps eliminating a grueling weight cut will improve her chances.
While her 11-6 record is far from atrocious, Eye’s UFC run has been a complete disaster. The “Evil” mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran is just 1-5 (1 NC) since crossing over in late 2013 and currently mired in a four-fight losing streak.
On the bright side, none of them have been finishes.
VanZant vs. Eye is targeted for the upcoming UFC 216 pay-per-view (PPV) event inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sat., Oct.7, 2017.
A main event has yet to be revealed.
