Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to action for UFC Fight Night: “Pettis vs. Moreno,” which went down last night (Sat., Aug. 5, 2017) inside Mexico City Arena in Mexico City, Mexico.
The promotion's latest mixed martial arts (MMA) card was headlined by a Flyweight fight that saw Sergio Pettis outclass Brandon Moreno for five rounds. Also, Alexa Grasso escaped Mexico with a split decision win over Randa Markos in a thriller.
Biggest winner: Sergio Pettis
Pettis looked dominant in his first five-round fight, taking it to Moreno to hand him his first loss inside the Octagon. In the process, "The Phenom" solidified himself as a legit contender that could very well see himself in a championship fight next. Of course, there are no guarantees that it will be against Demetrious Johnson, as "Mighty Mouse" still has to get through Ray Borg at UFC 215. Nevertheless, Pettis' stock will only rise moving forward after taking out a fellow rising prospect.
Runner Up: Niko Price
Niko's "0" didn't go, as he absolutely crushed Alan Jouban in the very first round with a thunderous right hand that put his foe on wobbly legs. After following it up with a few finishing touches, Niko found himself celebrating the biggest win of his career while putting the division on notice. Nothing but bigger and better challenges for Price.
Biggest Loser: Rashad Evans
It's been a tough fall from the top for the former Light Heavyweight champion, as "Suga" has now dropped four in a row after coming up short against Sam Alvey. Where he goes from here is anyone's guess, as Evans is at a crucial point in his career. He tried to turn it around by dropping down to Middleweight, but his first two attempts didn't go too well. Will he go back up ton205-pounds? Will he stay at 185? Will he retire? Its going to be an interesting couple of months coming up.
