Before rising sensation Brandon Moreno steps into the Octagon to face fellow rising prospect Sergio Pettis in the main event of UFC Fight Night 114 this weekend (Sat., Aug. 5, 2017) inside Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico, let’s take a trip down memory lane to see on of “The Assassin Baby’s” most dominant wins.
Back in 2016, Moreno found himself in a rather peculiar situation, as he got to make his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 96 before the season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) he was competing on finished airing, though he had already lost in the first round.
Moreno, though, took the opportunity and ran with it, as he took on a then six UFC fight veteran Louis Smolka on the main card of “Lineker vs. Dodson.” And it ws Moreno who looked like the seasoned veteran as he took advantage of a weak takedown attempt from Smolka and turned it into a fight-winning guillotine choke.
As a result, Moreno walked away with an extra $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for submitting the 5 to 1 favorite Smolka. Now, he looks to pick up the biggest win of his career as faces off against “The Phenom” in Mexico City in his first headlining act.
