Conor McGregor explains why Floyd Mayweather would be a great UFC fighter

The last time we saw a boxer try to make a name for himself in mixed martial arts (MMA), he was taken down and ground into dust by Randy Couture. And to be fair, the last time we saw a cage fighter try to box inside the ring, he was finished on his feet by Floyd Mayweather.

Point being, MMA and boxing are two completely different sports and success in one discipline does not necessarily translate into wins in the other. But if Mayweather decided to follow in the meaty footsteps of James Toney, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight kingpin Conor McGregor believes “Money” has enough tools to find success.

“He is a heck of a boxer. His experience, his patience and his endurance won him this fight hands down,” McGregor wrote on Instagram. “I always told him he was not a fighter but a boxer. But sharing the ring with him he is certainly a solid fighter. Strong in the clinch. Great understanding of frames and head position. He has some very strong tools he could bring into an MMA game for sure.”

I’d watch.

Mayweather retired with a perfect record of 50-0 following his victory over McGregor last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, the final fight of his storied career which came at the age of 40 after nearly two years on the sidelines.

Not too shabby.

The likelihood of Mayweather ever fighting again is remote, unless he finds himself in this situation and needs another windfall to keep the IRS at bay. Otherwise, he’ll go down as one of the best ever.
