Bellator 182: “Koreshkov vs. Njokuani” took place Aug. 25, 2017, in Verona, N.Y., at Turning Stone Resort & Casino, featuring a Welterweight fight between former division champion, Andrey Koreshkov, against rising star Chidi “Bang” Njokuani, who was previously unbeaten in nine straight fights. In the end, it only took Koreshkov four minutes to dismantle Njokuani in the first round, improving his overall record to 20-2 and immediately launching him back into contention for the title he lost to Douglas Lima in Israel (or at least moving him up the ladder right beneath Rory MacDonald).
Despite coming on a weekend where this card was potentially overshadowed by a huge boxing match in Las Vegas, Spike reports that Bellator did a respectable average of 565,000 viewers (+3 DVR) for the live broadcast, peaking at 825,000 viewers during the one-round main event.
Bellator will undoubtedly look for even bigger numbers in San Jose, Calif., on Sept. 23, 2017, when it presents “Henderson vs. Pitbull” live at SAP Center. In addition to the main event, Bellator 183 will also feature the promotional debut of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star Roy “Big Country” Nelson.
