They hype was indeed real.
An overwhelming demand for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor pay-per-view (PPV) event — which went down last night (Sat., Aug. 26, 2017) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Nevada — caused fight fans to Tweet their outrage last night after services — including UFC Fight Pass — failed to process orders in a timely manner.
As a result, the main event was delayed a while to allow everyone’s order and streams to kick in. Needles to say, people were not happy. Though we can’t say we weren’t warned.
.@UFCFightPass customers: Due to overwhelming traffic you may be experiencing log in issues. This will be resolved shortly.

Showtime Sports’ Stephen Espinoza confirmed with ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio that there were outages all over the country, and cable systems were allowed to reboot in order to permit people to watch the fight in a timely manner, admitting they had to “slow it down a little” to allow the process to happen.
Indeed, UFC Fight Pass was the first to go down, with many carriers across the country then crashing. According to Darren Rovell, also of ESPN, there is money lost from PPV, and carriers, as well as all parties involved in the fight, could be facing lawsuits.
Manny Pacquiao’s fight against Mayweather in 2015 had similar issues, but just like in that case, all issues were eventually resolved for Mayweather vs. McGregor, and the delay was no longer than 30 minutes.
In the end, Mayweather defeated McGregor via technical knockout (TKO) in the 10th round in what proved to be a rather entertaining bout.
Indeed, “Notorious” did much better than what many — myself included — expected, taking it to Floyd early and often before starting to waiver in the later rounds. And while many have debated the stoppage (Conor included), it seems the bout was coming to end regardless.
That said, UFC president Dana White says the days of boxing vs MMA crossover fights are over.
