Reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will try to take over the entire combat sports world tonight (Sat., Aug. 26, 2017) live on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he makes his professional boxing debut against undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.
McGregor, who made his UFC debut just over four years ago, has quickly become one of the most recognizable and popular sports stars in the world today. The Irishman’s pre-fight antics and in-cage destruction has led him to boxing’s doorstep. McGregor is not only expecting to land a $100 million payday for his “Money Fight” efforts, but he’s also aiming to dispel the idea that mixed martial artists can’t last inside of a boxing ring.
In preparation for McGregor’s clash with Mayweather, UFC has put together an intriguing look back at the Irishman’s rise to fame (shown above). From making his Octagon debut on the undercard of UFC on Fuel TV 9 to headlining UFC 205 this past November and winning his second UFC title, “Notorious” has had a masterful career inside of the cage.
If the 29-year-old can expand on that success against Mayweather this weekend in Las Vegas then he will likely go down as one of the greatest combat stars of all time, whether it be MMA or boxing.
