We are just hours away from the biggest fight in combat sports history as UFC superstar Conor McGregor meets Floyd Mayweather Jr. inside of the boxing ring later tonight (Sat., Aug. 26, 2017) live on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. McGregor will be making his professional boxing debut as Mayweather competes for the first time in nearly two years.
Considering “Notorious” has never fought inside of the boxing ring and “Money” has never encountered a striker as unique as McGregor, there is a lot to speculation surrounding the impending matchup. In preparation for the massive headliner, which projects to shatter all existing PPV records worldwide, Showtime Sports has released a final video breakdown featuring in-depth analysis for both McGregor and Mayweather (shown above).
While it isn’t clear what sort of approach McGregor is going to take to land punches through the defense of Mayweather, the Irishman would be foolish not to deploy awkward angles, stances, combinations, and unpredictable distance control. As for Mayweather, he must do what he does best, allow McGregor to come to him, utilize his legendary defense, and wait to counter with precision.
Mayweather vs. McGregor is expected to start sometime after 11:30 p.m. ET, while the Showtime PPV main card begins at 9 p.m. ET.
