Dana White: Ronda Rousey, Travis Browne will miss Mayweather vs McGregor because they are getting married

Within the combat sports world, nothing is more important right now than tomorrow’s (Sat., Aug. 26, 2017) boxing match between UFC champion Conor McGregor and the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr. But outside of the combat sports world, real life takes precedence over “The Money Fight.”

For former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and current UFC heavyweight contender Travis Browne, tomorrow will represent more than just a clash between mixed martial arts (MMA) and boxing. Instead, Aug. 26 will mark the day the two combat stars tie the knot after getting engaged this past April.

“Ronda Rousey gets married tomorrow,” UFC president Dana White said during a recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show. “Tomorrow is her wedding. She’s in a good place, she’s happy and hasn’t announced her retirement or anything like that, but she’s focusing on this wedding.”

Rousey, 30, has put her MMA career on hold after suffering a 48-second knockout at the hands of current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 this past December. The former UFC top draw has not officially announced her retirement, but for now she’s focusing on settling down with “Hapa.”

White, who has formed a personal relationship with Rousey over the years, was invited to attend the wedding, but he’s obviously going to have his hands full tomorrow with this whole Mayweather vs. McGregor thing.

“Of all the days (for it to happen),” White said. “She said, ‘I’m getting married. Will you come to the wedding?’ I said, ‘Absolutely.’ The wedding’s tomorrow.”

Is it a coincidence that Rousey is getting married on the same day as the biggest fight in combat sports history? Most likely, yes. But it’s still intriguing to see her grab some headlines during the weekend chaos.
