Ticket sellers starting to panic, can’t unload Mayweather vs McGregor seats on secondary market

Remember how difficult it was to buy tickets for the upcoming Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor boxing match, only to have them turn up in Costco for Iowa housewives just a few weeks later?

So much for “fight of the century.”

Tickets for “The Money Fight” have been slow moving ever since they were released for this Saturday night’s (Aug. 26, 2017) pay-per-view (PPV) event inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and now prices are forced to come down with just 24 hours to go before the first bell.

After a brief pop earlier this week, it seems that sellers have caved, with get-in prices down 44% to $1,100 as low as $1,100. As a point of comparison, the cheapest ticket to Mayweather-Pacquaio never got below $2,600. With this drop, the cheapest ticket now is below Mayweather's fight against Canelo Alvarez in September, 2013.

There are still over 1,200 tickets available in secondary and close to as many in primary, at $2,500 and $5,000 price points. Closed circuit is still not sold out with tickets available for $150. For MayPac, the day before the fight, there were 1,000 closed circuit tickets on the SECONDARY market with prices at 2-3 times face price.

I guess this was as crazy as it sounded when first announced.

Fight fans may have been turned off by the exorbitant prices on tickets, or perhaps those folks willing to shell out that sort of cash were not interested in watching the greatest boxer of our (or perhaps any) generation face a mixed martial artist with zero pro boxing fights.

Sorry, you’ll get no relief on PPV, either.

No telling what the scalping will be like tomorrow afternoon in “Sin City,” but no question there are more tickets than butts to fill them, so it will be a buyer’s market for those of you in town looking to get in without breaking the bank.
