‘Not surprised’ Alexander Gustafsson reserves judgement on Jon Jones following failed drug test

The mixed martial arts (MMA) community came out in droves to express their reactions to the news that Jon Jones had once again failed a United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) administered test for his fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017.

While “Bones” tarnished his legacy further in the eyes of many, the infraction affected so many other people, as well, such as Alexander Gustafsson, who was hoping to secure a rematch with Jones down the road.

Still, “The Mauler” tells MMAbetz.se (via Bloody Elbow) that he will refrain from judging Jones for his latest infraction, though nothing surprises him from his rival.

“We’ll wait and see what the B test says. Should it prove true, it’s a pity for the whole sport, sorry for DC who lost his belt against him, sorry for all his fans. It’s sad for me as well if it’s true. If there’s somebody I’ve been looking forward to fighting it’s him. Revenge in that fight is what I wanted. Am I surprised? No, nothing about that man surprises me anymore. But I do not want to judge him yet, not until we know everything. But if it’s true, then it would be best for him to end the sport.”

He was set up, I tell you!

There will be a B-sample tested soon, which will either confirm the first test or by some miracle prove that the initial result was incorrect. Should the test come back positive, Jones faces an uphill battle if he wants to return to action, as he could be hit with a lengthy suspension that will keep him out of commission for several years ... if not for good.

Meanwhile, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has yet to strip Jones of his Light Heavyweight title, but if they do, don’t be surprised to see “The Mauler” take part in a title fight to crown a new champion.

And this man will likely be standing across the cage from him.
