ONE Championship: “Shanghai” is set for the Oriental Sports Centre on Sept. 2nd and features a welterweight title fight and a former featherweight champion.
The previously announced main event pits Ben Askren (16-0-0-1) against Zebaztian Kadestam (9-3). The Swedish fighter secured this title shot by stopping Luis Santos, something the champion never got the opportunity to do due to a “no contest” back in 2015.
The co-main event sees the return of former featherweigth champion Narantungalag Jadambaa (12-5). The Mongolian will have the Shanghai crowd firmly behind him as he faces Japan’s Tetsuya Yamada (18-5) who is presumably moving down a division.
Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, stated:
“China is one of our biggest markets, and the focus has been to really bring the rich cultural history of martial arts in China to the forefront. It is a delight to finally announce our inaugural event in the beautiful city of Shanghai. We are coming at you live and ready to showcase the world’s most authentic display of martial arts.”
The card also features Xu Chun Yan, a two time boxing world title challenger who will be making her pro MMA debut. The Chinese fighter boasts a 6-2 record inside the ring and will be going up against Cambodia’s Ehpriyanut Phouthong (0-1).
