Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held its official 2017 Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Thursday night (July 6, 2017) inside Park Theater in Las Vegas, hosted by UFC commentator Jon Anik.
Joining the hallowed halls are legendary brawler Don Frye, former heavyweight headliner Maurice Smith, Japanese superstar Kazushi Sakuraba, longtime matchmaker Joe Silva, and bantamweight pioneer Urijah Faber.
“I’d like to think I showed some heart in my career,” Frye said (via UFC.com), as he inducted the former PRIDE champion. “But my heart compared to Sakuraba’s is not even in the same solar system. Sakuraba is a warrior among warriors.”
No argument here.
“Without Maurice Smith, maybe there wouldn’t have been a Chuck Liddell,” said former rival and fellow Hall of Famer Bas Rutten. “Maurice can see where things are going. He was – and still is – a renaissance man.”
